I was going through dell's monthly news thing today that get's shipped to my house and their top of the line model (XPS 700) has only the Core 2 Duo e6300. I found this odd that their top "gaming" rig has the lowest processor. I understand that dell is trying to make the most money but still. This is why I have always hated dell. You get absolutely nothing for your money.

That's exactly why, then when you add the x6800 they jack the price up $3000.

Exactley, that's why buying a pc, from anywhere not just dell, is a bad idea. You don't get jack **** for what you pay for. I forget what the price is in the end for all the good options for the "ultimate" gaming pc but it is ridiculous. You cna build any of dell's "gaming" rigs for at least half the price. :thumbdwn: for dell!

Ya, but then the price is crazy as all hell. **** dell.

It's far cheaper to just build the identical system yourself, it's cheaper and the experience rewarding.

Hell ya, for sure. I like going through dell catologes and seeing how much money I can save by building myself. I love hearing stories to when people say to me "I just bought this kickass system from dell..512 ram and everything dude!" And I just look at them and laugh.

While I agree for US its a bad idea to buy from DELL, I actually find myself recogmending them to regular folk. If you are buying a standard PC for surfing, word processing, and playing your MP3s/organizing your digital photos their bargin machines ($499-ish) are pretty damn good considering all you get with them. I just make sure that they talk to me/let me walk them through it before they order as I'm sure the DELL people will try to "upsell" them and thus ruin the entire point of getting the cheap machine.

Ya i have to agree with you. There bargain machines for 299 and up are good for simple people who ony need to be doing simple tasks as you mentioned above. But there higher end up "ultimate" machines are just horrible as far as price vs. performance.

I do the exact same thing, I tryed building a Nvidia 6150 board for under 500.00 I lost. If they want a 1000.00 and up PC I can make a lill money.

That is true. Most of dell's lower price PC's are hard to make cheaper on your own. There extreme systems on the other hand you can save quite a bundle on.

Factor in though a printer it usually comes with and all the taz you will pay on those parts. Not to mention, shipping if you order all those from online. I am not arguing, just pointing this out. That is a great system because it is self built. With dell though, most stuff isn't upgradeable because the parts are propietary. :thumbdwn: However, if it isn't a BTX style case then you can just re-use the case for a new mobo and stuff. :D

well ABS sells their **** for really really cheap. you can get SLi system for about the real price, $1000. not sure if the company in general is any good though. but if u cant build a comp, i think its a good alternative. they wouldn't be in business if they were completely horrible

Ya, some people do some very nice jobs making systems for what there worth but Dell is just insane. Like I post earlier in this thread, their lower end systems are worht it but their higher end gaming systems aren't even close to worth it.

OH NO! DELL THINKS QUITE WELL! They think that 90% of the people out there have no CLUE about what it takes to build a PC or even the type of parts that are need to complete a decent GAMING RIG. DELL counts on this fact that most people would just rather pay for a PC that comes with everything they need and if anything, Dell can set it up. Dell knows that there are so many people who just don't care about the particulars, they just want the PC with a DVD and CD Read and Writer, they want nice Flat Panel Display, Nice Speakers, and the want an ADD-On Printer included and maybe a card reader or docking station for thier Camera, and OH YEA! they want to hook it up to thier HDTV in thier living room so they can play thier favorite DVD's or CD's or they can download and play thier MTV Music Video's. LOL
DELL know's that most people don't even know what a GPU or even a CPU is, let alone Fast and Tight DDR2 Memory. Dell knows that the people don't have any idea about what 18 AMP's on the 12Volt RAIL means. They also know that most people won't even use the EXTENDED WARRANTY even after they PAY for it. WHY???
Because the Extended WARRANTY is only good for 1 to 3 Years and they know that after You have it in your home, that unless You are a complete IDIOT, your DELL PC Should last for 4 to 5 Years, which puts it Out OF WARRANTY! And if You decide to put in Your own Graphics Card and upgrade to a better PSU, then they VOID the WARRANTY as well. LOL
OH YES, DELL DOES THINK! THEY THINK ABOUT THIER SHARE OF THE DESKTOP AND NOTEBOOK PC MARKET and that is thier Bread n Butter! Boys!

Hell ya, it's horrible ecspecially for the price you pay. And the cooling is horrible also. Imagine why everyone wonders why the HD's are dying after a few months, theres no air in there!
