Microsoft Virtual PC Is Now Free!

Microsoft will also offer the free download of Virtual PC 2007, with support for Windows Vista, available in 2007.

Microsoft had no choice oncve VMware offered a free player and free GSX. Ever since MS bought Conenctix, Virtual PC has played a poor second fiddle to VMware's products.

If you want to run multiple instances of a single OS on a server (in other words, just linux or just windows, no mix-and-match) then take a look at Virtuozzo by SWsoft. It takes a completely different approach to virtualization, and has less overhead than any other virtualization product I've seen. We were testing the linux and windows versions, and each virtual machine had less than 1% slowdown over the non-virtualized installation. And because every virtual machine is based on the same OS, you can choose to patch a single VM, or all of them at the same time!

Of course, it's not free, but in this case, you do get what you pay for :D
