Just Installed my 7950gtx2, using the 91.31/91.27/91.45 (whatever the new betas are), i have this problem when i alt tab outa wow the screen becomes all gargled and useless (10000000x lines thru my screen) , but if i alt tab again i can get back into wow and for me to get to desktop i have to quit wow. Now If i run wow in opengl mode this doesnt happen, so im pretty sure its dx prob. Running the dxdiag test, on the dx7/8 test the spinning cube blinks and i get red/green/blue lines thru the screen , but on the dx9 its flawless. This also happen on the 3dmarks 2006 on the desert scene where the building blows up - it blinks and shows lines every frame. I had this problem back in the day with my 7800gtx sli set up, but went to a 1900xtx (which no problems with alt tabbing), but now i have the 7950 its back - each card was a clean install of windows. Specs of machine are 4800x2/k8n diamond plus mb, 2 gig ram, xfx7950gtx2 on xpsp2.

I can conform that I also have the WoW problem with the same card and drivers. Running WoW in single GPU mode works perfectly.

How do I run it in OpenGL mode, and is there any disadvantage? I didn't know that was possible.

in the target add a -opengl after wow.exe"

"c:\World of Warcraft\WoW.exe" - opengl

it seems to work fine, i didnt play too much once i switch to opengl, we have aq40 tonight so it will be a nice test.

also how did u switch to single gpu, and what kinda frames u getting? im running 1920*1200 24bit 4xaa with everything cranked and i get about 40-45 fps in org

I just go set the GPU mode to dual monitor mode, but I don't have dual monitors. Then just one GPU renders the game.

I'm not pushing the card nearly as hard as you, but at 1280x1024 with everything at max detail, max AA it's CPU bound on my 4800+.

I'll give OpenGL a try, but I probably won't be raiding until Monday. Maybe I'll hop into BWL tonight for a boss or two to check it out.

I am running two 7800's in SLI and I can confirm the same problem with WoW. Sometimes for me I can alt+tab or use the windows key and it works and sometimes it doesn't so it has to be a driver issue and not a card issue.

Just thought you 79XX owners would like to know

I noticed the same problem. Go into the WoW video options and select "run in a window" and apply it. You can then get to the desktop. You can also run it in a window full screen so that you can't even tell it's in windowed mode.

WoW is very cpu bound. Running SLI is a complete waste. Single GPU mode will be more than powerful enough for this game.

I wanted to report back that running WoW in OpenGL mode is unacceptable. It absolutely crushed performance down to 15-20 fps.

Single GPU mode is ok but I don't wish to toggle back/forth for 1 game so I hope they fix the driver bug.

I sent a report to NVidia concerning the issue. They requested additional information, so I provided what they asked for and also gave them a link to this thread.

Most games tell you to not alt-tab to the desktop. I avoid doing that with any game.

alt-tabbing is a way of life in WoW. Never had a single issue with it until the 7950.
