I am preparing to build another comp and would like to upgrade current to use as spare. I would like to know what card to go with keeping it under $200, preferrably under $150 without compromising performance. Oh buy the way, its AGP. My current card works resonably well (it runs Doom3) but is starting to show fatigue on newer games, comp stats listed below

CPU- AMD64 3400
MOBO- GB K8NPro
Mem- 1 GB DDR
C/S- nforce3 - 150
Video- FX 5600 XT

This card has worked well and am quite pleased which is why I want to replace with another nVidia. I'll probably install this one in another comp. I am getting a bit of a collection now. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanx

You could get 7600GS for around $150. That would be a great improvement over your FX 5600.

But don't plan on having full Windows Vista, Shader Model 4, or DirectX10 support. Granted no card currently supports this yet, but it is right around the corner.

The 7600 is a nice card, I would reccommend it. You could alwyas go all the way and get a 7900 although I'm not sure if they have AGP forms of it. You could always wait for G80?

I bought a 6800GT for less than that (thanks six_storm) and it'll stomp a 7600GS. Shop around forums and eBay.

7600 will have better video playback than both the 6600 and 6800U/GT would.

Thanx. This does help. I had looked at the 6800 line but avaliability was hit and miss. Those that had them where over $200. I havent seen a 7900 AGP but that doesnt mean it doesnt exist.

The delay on Vista is whats holding me back. I figuered I would upgrade this machine and see how things run when Vista is released before building another, no doubt there will be some bugs and everyone will be releasing new hardware to take advantage of the new OS.I'll have to look at the 7600 and see what I find. Thanks for your input.
