I usually do all the research when looking to build a computer but this time i'm too lazy so I need some help Recommend me CPU, MOBO, RAM, GPU for about 700-800 bucks. This comp will be used for everyday school use, watching movies as well as the occasional gaming binge. I've been doin some preliminary reading saying it would be useless to build an 939 or AM2 and go Conroe. Other than that heres what i'm coming from

Old system
Intel P4 2.2 GHZ 533 FSB
1 GB Kingston RAM
Geforce 4 ti 4200

What i'm currently thinking about
AMD Athlong 64 X2 3800+ or even 4400+
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
eVGA 7600 GT 256 MB DDR3

Or should I be looking at the conroes?

It's all up to you. You cna build a nice AMd system for super cheap now. Although conroe is the preferred choice, there launch of the new chip hasn't been exactley ideal. :thumbdwn: It's pretty tough to get one right now and if you can find one the price of it is bound to be super high. If I were you I would just go for AMD, either socket 939 or AM2. It is a lot cheaper right now and the system will still be good for gaming. I use a 3200+ (939) and it runs games fine for me right now.
