Right now I have a 17" CRT monitor and i wanna upgrade to a 19" LCD. When i upgrade the monitors recomended resolution for the desktop will be 1280 but when i run games i wanna put them in 1024 resolution. Will getting a new monitor lower my fps or slow down my computer becuase the desktop is 1280?

He means that if you already game at 10x7 that your framerate will not change. Your video card determines frame rate, not your monitor.

Native resolution will be 1280x1024 and will probably look better in games. However, you can change it to 1024x768 and pick up a few FPS. Just try it and see what works best for you. I think your setup (CPU, ram, video card) will handle either one OK. You might have to play around with the AA and AF settings for best performance but I think you can run at your present settings, whatever they are, at 1280x1024 with no problem.

If i understand your question correctly : Game resolution has nothing to do with your desktop res - framerate/performance wise.
