I doubt the technology is as ready as it would seem. They haven't even tested the thing afterall. I mean, ideally almost all of our military technologies are incredibly freaking accurate, yet in real use they aren't nearly that accurate. North Korea is just screwing with us, they aren't actually going to do anything.
This is why weapons of mass destruction are bad bad bad....the doctrine of MAD works, but only with two superpowers. With the incredible ammount of horizontal proliferation going on, it would be best to just disarm and stick with conventional weapons.

I work 3 miles from a prime target myself. I just hope we get nuked in the evening or weekend when I am at home (45 miles away).

Me too. It would really suck to have a nuclear attack on the US. It would have one positive implication and that is it would show off the horror of nuclear weapons first hand to the American people...but I hardly think the massive loss of life is worth the lesson it would teach.

Governors are very dumb lately... they only think of killing people. :lame:
I live just 50 miles from the Everett Bangor naval base. Ummm..... we have nuclear subs there and it has been a nuclear strike target since the arms race and not to mention 5 miles from one of Boeing's engine plants.
The nuclear clock just moved forward one hour.

While it appears that the Koreans might indeed have the BOMB, it remains unclear whether they have the FOOD.

Yes they do have food, but just for the military people.

K.I.L.E.R, yes.. I guess I mean the leading Elite of North Korea is about as crazy as leaders of a country can get.
But we all know it takes alot more than one crazy madman to keep a crazy regime like the North Korean one going. Alot more.
I suppose the average North Korean farmer isn't crazy by default, but it might well be so that they believe the crazy stuff their leaders keep saying since they never get to hear anything else.
I heard that the all the food that the US and a bunch of European countries sent to them some years ago was repackaged before it was distributed, since it arrived in bags with american flags and what not on them, and the NK leaders wanted to make sure the people didn't get to know that other countries actually had plenty of food...
It is not in North Korea's best interest to attack the US. They know full well that if they use a nuke, the US would use 10 nukes back on them and essentially wipe out their entire population. In the end, nobody wants to die, and no one leader wants to be responsible for the complete annialation of their own people.
Korea is angry, and probably feels the US is being hypocritical by having a bunch of nukes themselves, having used an A bomb twice on Japan, but then getting angry when anyone other then themselves or their allies have nukes.
Do I think the US is less likely to use Nukes than Korea, yes. But lest we forget the horror that the US has used a form of it before. August 1945 was by far our most shameful time in American history.
To sum this all up... God help us. :(
I don't think using nukes is shamefull.
/me waits for someone to take this out of context. :D

You went to the toilet in a plastic bag :p
If one Korea uses a nuke, everyone loses
If America uses one, everyone loses
repeat for all nuclear powers

Nth Korea isn't a nuclear power. They may have up to 30 nukes but that is nothing than what the USA has. :p

Having one nuclear weapon means you are a nuclear power. America may have more but Korea are a huge threat.
I'm going to hide under my bed until the issue is solved.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Bush administration have full fleged plans on attacking Nth Korea already. :)
You just have to hope that I am right in my guessing. :)

what would attacking them accomplish? It would only piss them off and increase the risk of them attacking us, no?

We've had plans on how to defend S. Korea and plans for a N. Korean invasion since the end of the Korean Conflict. It's a little nieve of the N. Koreans to think we just came up with this junk when they decided they wanted to play ball in the nuclear court.
N. Korea is pushing it to get their shipments of oil re-instated after the US and Britain suspended them over the admitance of the N. Korean government that they had a secret nuclear weapons program running. That was in direct violation of the treaties we had with them.
The US is building up troops in S. Korea not as a preperation for an invasion, but as a deturant to a N. Korean advance into the DMZ.

I AM SICK AND TIRE OF THIS HORSE BUNK!!! YOU WERE NOT THERE YOU ARE HERE BECAUSE OUR GRANDFATHERS PROCECTED OUR SORRY BUTTS. IT WAS NOT SHAMEFULL!! YOU TELL THAT STORY TO MY UNCLE WHO DIED ON THE BATAAN!!! MAYBE IF WE USED IT EARLIER HE WOULD BE ALIVE TODAY. THEY ATTACKED US!!! IF YOU CAN'T WIN THE FIGHT THEN DON'T START IT AND DON'T GIVE ME THAT CONSPIRACY ABOUT FDR ALLOWING IT TO HAPPEN.
AND YES I MEAN ALL CAPS!!!! THIS JUST GET MY BLOOD BOILING. IT HAS COME NOW THAT WE HAVE TO SAY SORRY FOR WINNING AND HOW WE WIN.
ON SECOND THOUGHT I WANT JAPAN TO SAY SORRY FOR ATTACKING US!!! AND YES AUGUST 9, 1945 SHOULD BE REMEMBERED AS THE DAY THE US KICK THE CRAP OUT OF A FANATICAL COUNTRY THAT SHOULD HAVE KEEPT THIER SHIP IN THIER HARBOR.
I don't hate Japan at all but back then they were a huge threat to the world.
FORGET THAT!!!
