$300 US is not bad for a 512 meg 7900gt card. ;)

I've had a Gainward Golden Sample 7900GT 512mb for a few months now & it is very nice. It runs stock at 550 core and 700 mem which is good. The Golden Sample means it has been tested at these speeds and is stable. I've read about some stock O/C cards that can't hack it and die. Mine still keeps going LOL.

The extra memory means I can run Quake4 and Doom3 in Ultra mode with 4x AA & 8X AF and no slowdowns! Awesome. Also COD2, PREY, FEAR can play at max settings with no slowdown.

It does help that I've just purchased a new S939 X2 4600 a couple of weeks ago.

If only I could sort out my shi*** broadband connection I'd be happy. Currently getting between dial-up and 0.5mb when I should be getting >3mb LOL.

Plusnet in UK are crap!!!!

I've been eyeing EVGA's 7900GT 512MB card. IF I can get a good mATX board and a E6600 before the G80 comes out, I'll probably do that and then use the step up program.

Yes it pisses me off because I wanted to do a step-up to a 7900GT KO 512mb from a 7900GT SS but they want do it because they say it is a step down, going from 600/1600 with 256mb to a 560/1500 with 512mb to me is'nt really a step down.

Great price, and the clocks are decent on those 512mb GTs too. Folks with a SLi mobo ought to seriously consider two of them. @ 560|1500 they will handle 1600x with high filtering very well.

I use a 19" LCD so 1280x1084 is my my max setting. Used to own a 21" CRT but it weighed a ton and I didn't like the 1600x1200 setting.

1280x1024 maxed out is good enough for me and the FPS I get are awesome with AA & AF.

I'm a happy chappie thank you.

Cheers

PS New X2 4600 makes big difference in "new" games lkike PREY, FEAR & COD2.

The price and specs on this card was too good. Tomorrow I'll have a shiny new evga 7900gt KO 512 meg. ;) I've had this 6800 ultra for over 2 years. Served me quite well. I may not be able to play newer games at 1600x1200 4xAA/16xAF, but it's still able to play SM3 games at 1280x1024 with 2xAA/16xAF. :)

Not really. The clockspeed on the GTX is still much faster.

Got my card today. I've clocked it to 650/800 and benchmarked with that speed without any errors. I'm very pleased to say the least. ;)

As for the 7900GT 512, great card, great price, uses Infineon memory and OC's fairly well...

I have 21" Hitachi Superscan supreme and I love it. LCD's cant compete with CRT's. LCD's are use mercury, same stuff you find in your house hold thermostats. They can only fade in and it out so fast. Even if the get LCD's down to 1MS you will still get the wash if your playing fast paced FPS's. I know the 21" CRT's are bulky but I have the room for it. besides. whats better then a having a CRT that burns your eyes out over time lol:)
