I have a 7900GT, and I'm wondering if the upgrade would be worth it or not for games at all.

Thanks!

If you are going to upgrade go for either the 3800+ or the 4400+. Don't go inbetween. I say that because for a bit more, with the 4400+, you can get the 1Mb cache. It's up to you though. Also, bear in mind that most games don't take advantage od Dual Core machines yet so your upgrade will be limited by that.

For games you wont see much but for multitasking...you will... :)

Games that use Dual Core you will see a benefit like Oblivion/Quake 4. Crysis is also gonna support 64bit/DX10/Dual Core as well

Today at Newegg
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester 2000MHz HT 2 x 512KB L2 Retail $147.00
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Manchester 2200MHz HT 2 x 512KB L2 Retail $181.00
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+(89W) Toledo 2200MHz HT 2 x 1MB Retail $228.00
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Manchester 2400MHz HT 2 x 512KB L2 Retail $249.00

If you don't like to spend much go 3800+, or get 4200+ only $34 more and same MHz like 4400+

The 4400 has the worst performance/value ratio, the extra 1MB L2 Cache gives it only little boost.

Plus if you want to spend so much money on 4400+ you better spend $21 more and get the 4600+, same MHZ like Toledo 4800+

The 3800+ is sure great deal but if you're not planning next upgrade to soon you'll be more happy with 4600+

Thanks to Intel the AMD Athlon 64 X2 are now good deals. I bought the 4200+ about 7 months ago for over $400, at that time the 4800+ was over $800.00

By the way all the Toledo cores (4000+, 4400+, 4800+) also FX-60 are discontiniued by the AMD on both 939 and AM2 mobos.

According to this chart even AMD would not argue with my recomendation.

I agree just bought an X2 4600 when the prices dropped and it is excellent.

In games it really rocks and in multi-tasking it is awesome.

Buy one while u can!!!

Cheers
