Just recently bought a Geforce 6600GT. After a few weeks use the fan started to get louder and louder. At this point It's sitting in the box. I am wondering a few things before i go about my RMA. I am noticing this is a common issue for the Gigabyte Geforce 6600 cards. Should i go ahead with the RMA or replace the stock heatsink/fan? If so should i go with the one listed here

Which is a ZALMAN VF700-CU 2 Ball VGA COOLER? Do not play a lot of games just some older ones here and there. So i am not looking into spending big bucks on a cooling solution or a better card. So whats everyones opinion on this i guess?

If you RMA it then the fan is more then likely going to be the same loudness ,I would just get a aftermarket cooler like the one you show.

Yeah trying to avoid having the same problem in another month. Guess now I am open for suggested coolers, if anyone has a better recommendation than the one i linked. Thanks.

I have a XFX 6600GT 256 card sitting around here. The fan did the samething. They don't have ball bearings. There just nylon bushings. I replace it with the Zalman VF700- CU. It ran cooler then the stock did. I would go with the Zalman!

Now that kind of suprises me that your XFX card did the same thing. I was always under the impression they made better quality cards. I guess with the stock vga coolers it does not matter what you do your going to end up replacing it. Thanks for the advice guys.

Yeah, go with the VF700. Since you're not really into gaming, just hook it up in 'normal mode' and you won't even hear it.
