Is it worth getting a new 7900 GT if Direct X ten comes out late next year?
I don't think this will handle upcoming next-gen games. Will it? I don't know if it's worth getting or not. I only have an integraded 92865g.

In the PC hardware market , theres always something good coming around the corner .. its up to you to make a decision whether to get it now or wait more & get something else later.

Why are you asking this in this forum?

This belongs in another forum, but here is my answer.

Personally, I'm not going to buy a new graphics card until Vista is released, and I am 100% sure the card fully supports DX10. Most likely, this is going to be either the G80 or the R600. So imho, I'd wait until one of those cards came out.

Thread moved.

The 7900 GT would be a good upgrade unless you want to wait.

Seeing as you are using intergrated I would say go for the 7900GT. Even if you upgrade to DX10, you should be able to sell the 7900 for an ok price on ebay. Hell they are selling used 7800GTs on ebay.com.au for as much if not more than new 7900Gts from retail stores.

I currently have a 7800GT PCI-e. I was very temped to upgrade to a 7900GT (maybe even a 7950), but I have decided to wait. With DX10 soo close to release, and the next generation of cards just around the corner. I'm holding out. But since you have a intergrated chip, you're cut out from quite a few games (at least anything where you will ghave to dumb down the graphic settings quite a bit). I would say go for the 7900GT or at least a 7600. to hold you over.

I was lucky enough to score a second 7800GT cheap for SLI. Perfect hold off until G80.

Yea i can't play anything on good settings. But I don't want to spend 280 dollars on the 7900. So it's a hard descision. Especially with the fact that my pc isn't the greatest at p4 2.6 ghz

It is PCI-E right?? If so the 7600 is a very capable card. On both PCI-E and AGP.
Same for the 7800GT (GS on AGP), though I found they are rare and over priced if you can find them.

Didn't see you were using integrated. In that case I'd get a nVidia 7600GT to hold you over until the real deal G80 comes out.

Honestly, if you want to play the next gen games, your CPU need an overhaul too.

If you had integrated graphics would you still think the same way?

I think i'll buy a cheap card just enough to run oblivion. Or even oldblivion if I have to. But then next year i'll see if I can get a new system with some next gen stuff.

Yeah. I'm actually pretty surprised with Sparkle. They are getting a really strong rep in Australia. I'll prob go with EVGA for G80 as they have a proper office over here now.
