Sierra's FTP must be hammered, because it won't resolve. Fileplanet lines are surprisingly < 10 minutes long.

08-17-06, 12:48 PM
Im paying for a Fileplanet account and I'm trying to download it through the download manager.

I was getting pretty crappy speed... then it wasnt going at all... now its back up to a respectable 180K\sec.

I'm just glad I'm not paying for some rediculously high speed connection.

Ok... back up to 324K\sec.

Hmm, Fileplanet's servers are the only servers that can max out my 15mbit line, Gamespots are usually not very good...

08-17-06, 01:11 PM
Yeah... my download completely stopped again... :|

08-17-06, 01:15 PM
Yeah, I lied about the Fileplanet line, or rather they did. My download still hasn't started yet.

08-17-06, 01:23 PM
Back up to 320k\sec again... it looks like the FP servers are having some problems

08-17-06, 01:28 PM
Atleast you guys get to attempt a download. I still have about 2 1/2 hours before I can get it.:(

08-17-06, 03:02 PM
Just a little update...

My Fileplanet download STILL hasn't started, and Filefront has no lines. Getting 433KB/sec over there.

Heh... I just now realised that FEAR was published by Sierra...

I think thats the first time I've seen anything published under that name in years.

Any reason one would want this if you already have FEAR?

Any reason one would want this if you already have FEAR?
Nope, except to maybe save some disk space versus the retail version.

I'm going to probably host a game or two tonight if anyone else wants in.

I just played some Deathmatch... its alright.

Its exactly the same as FEAR.

Lag deffinitely sucks in this game though. In some games its bearable, but in this one its extremely irritating. Some guy with a 150 ping was totaly tearing up the server because he lagged so far behind that he was pretty much seeing a completely different game than anyone else. I cant even count how many times that guy killed me (with the spike gun thinger :p) after I was already behind a wall or in a different room.

I probably wont play this much, but it takes up less hard drive space than having the whole game installed, so it can stay.

It doesnt run that good either. I turned some things down and it still wasnt very smooth at 1600x1200. Lots of framerate fluctuation... 25 here, 120 there... bleh. I never thought it looked that good, so the performance vs image quality kinda sucks IMO.

The sound is also extremely borked on the X-Fi. It was like that before, and I was really disapointed that it wasnt fixed yet. Guns are almost silent when you use hardware sound and all of the EAX effects. Pretty much all you can hear is that ambient droning sound all of the ricochet and bullet whizzing noises. Running with all of the hardware and EAX effects off makes it sound fine though.

Weird, absolutely no issues with EAX here, it sounds great

08-17-06, 05:41 PM
I'm hosting a game, stop by if you want!

Join FEAR and my Ventrilo server!

Server address is stncttr908-home.no-ip.org or and password is nvnews. Ventrilo server does not have a password.

08-17-06, 05:42 PM
I'll hope on tonight if the server is still up :)

08-17-06, 05:46 PM
I'll probably have it open and minimized, so hop on Vent and give a shout if you're joining.

Or you can just kill my idle ass in the game. :D

Cool! I'll try and join the game and vent server in a while. Thanks, will be cool to use vent in a game like this...

08-17-06, 06:01 PM
Be sure to let me know if there are any problems connecting.

08-17-06, 06:47 PM
If I didn't already have FEAR, this would be much more exciting, at least there should be packed servers now.

08-17-06, 06:53 PM
Hey dudes, I took the server down until 9PM EST (UTC -4). Ventrilo is still up, so hit that up and hang around if you want until then.

08-17-06, 08:12 PM
No one? :(

08-17-06, 08:29 PM
where do you get the key?

08-17-06, 08:29 PM
Gah, I have to download now, just came in....

EDIT: Damn 1.7Gb, didn't think it was that big. Downloading at around 600kbs so a little less that an hour before I can play.
