View Full Version : New NV30 allocation rumor from Inquirerer

I know a lot of people don't like/find it credible, but I find the Inquererer to be right a lot more than they're wrong.
There's a new story about upcoming FX allocations (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=7796) that don't bode well for nVidia.
A tasty quote:
there's an allocation of 2,000 cards for the US, 1400 for the European Union and a measly 750 for the whole of Asia.
And Terratec, Creative, PNY, BFG, Gainward, Leadtek, Asus, and MSI will all have to share this generous amount between themselves.
These cards will be 128MB cards, apparently, and you can kiss the 256MB cards farewell until the NV35 arrives.
Not sounding like happy news. :(

Nothing against you but, it's just a rumor and a dumb one at that. Non-Ultra will do ok but not stellar, and the Ultra "may" be limited to 100,000. Most of the Inquirer rumors are a load of crap. In a word, Ignore.
A whole 2000?
If accurate, this fiasco just keeps getting worse.
And some folks used to worry about ATI providing enough competition. The shoe is on the other foot now.
That rumor actually makes me think that's what's going to be available on the 20th
So, if I understood correctly, there WILL be more than that, but it won't be available directly.

I was nodding me head agreeing with ya 'til I came to this part, and it sort of threw me. I don't think I'm quite catching what you're throwing here, could you elaborate a bit please?

More GeForce FX Ultras will be shipped than that. But that's what's going to ship on the 20th of February.
Those additional GFFXU will probably ship around March...

Thanks, I'm still a bit of a thicky this afternoon. I was getting this weird mental image of a warehouse somewhere filled to the brim with FXs and the CEO of nVidia comically rubbing his hands together muttering, "There mine!!! All mine, and no one else can have them!", or something else really ridiculous like that.
You're right, it makes a lot of sense and would make a couple of rumors right. They rush a few out the door to make their "FX on the shelves by the end of February" statement at least come true in word, then they get a few weeks to start the cards coming out in quantity.
Thanks, it makes muchly better sense now. My bad for not firing on all cyclinders on me first read-thru. :)
I've been getting this picture of Nvidia lately.

Thoroughly agree! nVidia will be down, but no way out! Hell, losing their entire PC graphics division couldn't KILL them. But it'll hurt their pride to lose the PC gaming crown for a while...it is their claim to fame. ;)

That allocation roumor is funny. At first The Inq said "you will NOT beable to buy the Gf FX Ultra, only the preorders will get it"
Then they backed down and said "there may or may not be some Ultras in Stores"
Then they back down and say "well, there will be ultras in stores, but they will be allocated"
hmmm sounds like a bunch of bull**** to me?

You're not quite getting it GlowStick. Those allocation numbers are for the pre-ordered cards. Obviously they can't make the exact same amount of cards as pre-orders. There may be a little more or a little less.

and don't forget one more thing.......many ppl cancelled pre orders,i wouldn't be surprised at all that those allocated cards are ones preordered then cancelled.
no1 expected FX to be so loud and so under-performer (vs. hype)

Yes, my point is the 'rumors' are full of it.
The first rumor was, "THE FX IS CANCLED, only preorders will beable to get an Geforce FX, NONE WILL BE SHIPED TO STORES!"
The next rumor they backed off and said "OK, there will be FX's in stores, but NO ULTRAS"
Finaly, they are to the current rumor that "Well, there will be allocations at first, then as time goes on, they will have more."
So basicly they first claimed "Our source told us there will be NO FX's"
That changed to "when the FX is first released, there will be limited numbers"
Wow, that seems to apply with new Cars, Toys, Processors.... and on and on.

i read more crap in here sometimes than at the inquirer ! it just a rumor treat it as such and have some fun . somethings theyve said theyve been right about and its not just all bulls**t! now that ive got that outta my system, i dont think it matters much how many gf fx (ultra) cards come out, the damage has been done .its obvious to all that by the time it does get to retail (if it makes it that far ) ati will have their new chip out within a few weeks so whats the point .

There was a link from Anandtech.com that went to HardOCP that quoted Sharkyextreme that linked to Beyond3D that read it from 2cpu.com forums.
