I want to get this monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824163130

The recommended resolution is 1440*900. I checked in my drivers and that resolution wasnt listed. I even unchchecked the box that says hide resolutions that this monitor cannot support and it wasnt there. Does this mean that this monitor wont work with my computer? Also becuase it uses wide screen resolutions does it mean that my frame rates may drop? Thanks for feedback!

You can add custom resolutions... Though not all games support cutoms resolutions.

You will be fine...Probably just a bug in the driver version...I am using the 93.91 drivers, and 1440 by 900 automatically is a preset number when I right click on desktop and go to resolution...

Thanks guys i guess i shouldnt have a problem than with the monitor. But will my framerate drop becuase its a widescreen monitor?

That really depends. What resolution are you playing at right now? I went from playing @ 1280x1024 to 1440x900 and it seems about the same...

Well right now i have a 17" CRT so my recomended resolution is 1024*768 i tried a 19" LCD before and my framerate didnt drop. But if im playing in a widescreen will my fps drop? I play all games in 1024 isnt there a widescreen resolution for that?

I just have a question for you. I noticed in your signature that you have a 3700+. Then it says your updating to a 3800+. I'm assuming you don't have socket 939 right now then? Still, wouldn't you want to upgrade to something mroe..I mean..it is an upgrade.

Yeah i have socket 754 and it sucks i have the best processor in that class thats why im getting a new motherboard with socket 939 so eventually i can upgrade to dual core. Back to my question though will have widescreen lower my framerates?

1024 x 768 (A.R.= 4:3) = 786432 pixels
1440 x 900 (A.R.= 8:5) = 1296000 pixels.
Forget the Aspect Ratio. It's all about the pixel quantity.
Your frame rate could drop a little, because your system would have to process 64.79% more in pixel quantity, compared to 1024x768. And add to that AA and AF, and the frame rate drop might not be as linear as wished.

1280 x 1024 (A.R.= 5:4) = 1310720 pixels
1440 x 900 (A.R.= 8:5) = 1296000 pixels.
Forget the Aspect Ratio. It's all about the pixel quantity.
Have you ever played games on your rig using 1280 x 1024 ?
1440 x 900 has less 14720 pixels than 1280 x 1024.
So 1440 x 900 frame rate should be equal or tiny little bit slighty better than 1280 x 1024.

Got it now. Nice time for an upgrade too. AMD s939 processor's are super super low right now. :D

A regular 19" LCD would most likely have the native res of 1280x1024, which is slightly more pixels (as shown in KoRnfR3aks quoted post here), so that wouldnt help you any at all.
1280 x 1024 (A.R.= 5:4) = 1310720 pixels
1440 x 900 (A.R.= 8:5) = 1296000 pixels.

If you were to run 1024x768 on a none wide 19" it wouldnt offer the best IQ when scaled to fill the screen, and if using "Centered output" it wouldnt fill the screen, only 1024x768 pixels in the center of the 1280x1024 pixel area of the screen.
There are lower widescreen resolutions aswell, but since LCD monitors have acctuall pixel representation on the screen, its always the best option to run the native resolution of that screen.

It's all on how many pixels the resolutions have. I went from playing on a 17" CRT at either 1024x768 or 1152x864 (depending on whether game supported 1152) to a 17" LCD with 1280x1024 native and my FPS dropped considerably.

For example on my rig (sig), I have to run CoD2 at 1024x768, not powerful enough to play 1280x1024 smoothly.

If you have a good video card (7900GT or X1800XT or better), then you should be fine for playing at resolutions with pixel count around 1280x1024 level.
