on a side note, the shadows seem to be much softer than they were in earlier shots :)

and the heads much pointier. What's up with the low poly creatures?!

Here we go again...
These aren't mind blowing by any means, but they're better than anything in development. And in motion, it'll look incredible.
(The first creature does look way too low poly, agreed)

One would think that in the future, lighting fixtures would be able to withstand a certain amount of shock/damage/abuse
Guess not!
Dammit,. damn these 100% shadowy levels.
Oh, btw here is a BRAND NEW, never-seen screenshot which I stole off the id Servers.

Wow. That stolen BMP has got to be the most gorgeous screenshot I've ever seen. Jeez, those guys at id are really busting their (bleeps) to write a really good game engine.
Hey look real time shadows with the proper optical physics AT LAST.
Pity the light in that room was turned off. It is one of those missions you have to do in the dark :D
That stolen BMP definitely shows the main advantages of 128 bpp...

John Carmack stated that Doom III would not have 64 bit or 128 bit rendering. He also said that the game was being designed around Geforce 1 hardware and it plays at optimal performance on next generation cards. Some features from the Geforce 4 and possibly ATI's cards will be added when he begins optimizing the code. His next engine will support 128 bit color and a high shading language. I can't wait for Doom III and he's all ready thinking of a new engine which we'll probably see in 2005 or 2006....just my two cents.

actually Carmack said the next engine would be out in 5 years. not sure if he meant that from the time he said that(QuakeCon) or from the time when Doom 3 is completely finished. at any rate, that would put it at 2007 at the earliest. at which time, NV30 will be used as the bottom baseline, that will truly be a wonderous engine.

Well, I was just making fun out of that BMP. Have you even seen it ?
