Hi , Congratulations on the purchase of your NewEgg.com computer components!
...
VGA PWRCLR|RADEON9700 128MB 8X GOLD 1 $248.00
Damn.... talk about a spontaneous buy... I keep my info on file at Newegg, so I don't even have to type my address of CC info in. I just click "buy" and its shipped.
This will be my first non-nVidia video card since my 3dfx Voodoo 1.

You'll like it, good buy.
Ya I hear ya buddy. I have only had Nvidia products since my Voodoo1 also but I completely love this 9700pro I bought. The only thing I miss is DV but you will get used to not having it because everything else can be cranked up. :D You will need to fix your refresh rate in the control panel then things will really shine for you.
BTW....in before the move. ;)
You miss DV? Really?!

I miss it, too. It's not a huge loss, but it's a feature I've always enjoyed having.

Congrats! Make sure to report back and let us know how you like it.
Actually I don't miss DV at all. :)
I don't know what grasped me with Ati's 2D quality but comparing my bros GF3 with DV (I prefer max DV the other settings never appealed to me) and my R300 head 2 head the R300 looks better. Of course the GF3 has excellent 2D IQ as well, just the R300 has a pretty good edge over the GF3 (Leadtek).
Anyway, congrats Dave. If you watch DVD's you will be impressed by Ati's IQ and DVD playback. I was watching LOTR on my PC and my eyes popped right out of my head, that's how good it looked.
DaveW :spank: ....well someone had to do it:angel2:

Ya I do but I do know of a solution. Buy a flat panel monitor and it is the same thing. Nice vibrant colors. I really do love my 9700pro and with a flat panel it is even better.

Yeah, I know what you mean - I use an LCD (Samsung 172T) with the DVI output of my 9700 Pro and it looks awesome. Identical to the Leadtek Ti4400 I had before though.
I was just suprised that you missed DV, IMO just a cheap gamma/contrast hack. It plays havoc with colour accuracy and was probably the result of a dodgy marketing call that was implemented to make up for the slightly lacklustre colour saturation produced by nV cards in the past. The GF4Ti range are better though (especially cards from Leadtek and Gainward etc that use decent output filters). They should drop it - as games get more realistic, display technology improves and more people use their PCs to watch DVDs etc it is increasingly derogatory.

It's been that long.
I've bought a number of ATI (Rage 128GL, Radeon 256, Radeon 8500, Radeon 9700Pro), Matrox (G400Max, G550), and 3dfx cards (Voodoo 2, Voodoo3, Voodoo5 5500) since the Voodoo 1, not to mention Videologic's card (name escapes me), Intel's last video card (name escapes me again).
Then there's the NVIDIA-based cards (TNT, TNT2, Geforce 1, 2, 3,and 4).
NVIDIA, of course, was the only one that could pump out new cards at a regular rate. All others, I had to wait a year or more between purchases.
I was in that habit of buying the latest and greatest.

I only ever buy NVIDIA cards, and I seem to be recommending people to buy NVIDIA as well, but, I'm going to pickup a 9700PRO in a few weeks. The GeForceFX isn't worth the extra money IMO, I'd put up with the noise though.

I wouldn't recomend nVidia. :)
Not until they pull their socks up and err fix up that damn Blood 2 vsync issue, been around for like 1-2 years maybe more. Hopefully someone else can comfirm if they have fixed it yet.
In future, after the NV50 and R500 I would still play some older games llike B2, and if they have not fixed the bloody issue by then, I know who to go after. :eek2:

LOL, that's my problem with EBAY, they took over Paypal and ever since it's made it WAY too easy for me to simply click BUY IT NOW, PAY NOW. lol
Is that a 9700 non-pro? Good card, geat price. If you're interested, Rage3d has links for a couple of hacked overclocker bios to give you Pro speeds.
