View Full Version : Crazy Happenings!!!

In truth there is nothing particularly crazy going on, but I thought it would grab the attention more than the usual 'what should I upgrade to' or 'what's wrong with my graphics card' threads.

Anyway, this is my first new thread so hello one and all, I have finally registered now I have a non-online email address, and my joy is boundless.

What I would like an opinion on is the performance of my new graphics card (in the sig).

I know my cpu is a tad poo but I have only been getting around 3900 in 3dmark06, ( 2000:sm2.0 and 2100 sm3.0/HDR) at 550/675 clocks, in High performance mode, with 91.31 drivers. Seems a bit low. Also I got 6286 in '05,which isn't great.

I thought the problem might be my old 360 watt psu but it remains after fitting a new 420 watt Tagan.

Strangely enough my FEAR benchmarks seem to be pretty good:
min:29 avg:72 max:198 0%/15%/85% with full detail, 11x8, 2xAA, 4xAF, 'quality' driver setting.

I suspect this is just a matter of 3D Mark being a bit silly and me expecting too much. I was hoping that with the 7900gt core and a hefty overclock I would get near 7900gt/gtx performance, I guess it is not to be...:thumbdwn:

I would appreciate anyone with this card to post their experiences and benchmarks, there arnt a lot around with it being agp and only limited numbers.

those don't appear too bad, considering the 7800 GS was just a little bit stronger than the 6800 GT/Ultra series... and i usually only get 5,800 on 3dmark'05 and only 2,600 on '06, i can't say though if it really does compare to other 7800 GS's

His card is actually based on the 7900 GPU though, and has 20 pipes versus the regular GS's 16.

good point, i forgot those are the "7900 AGP"... that's still pretty low, i really don't knwo what would be causing it, i know a p4 3.0ghz isn't too slow, it's definetly not the fastest, but it shouldn't impact performance too bad

I did a quick search on the Orb and I found that your score is completely normal and here's a comparison link for ya :) : http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=458511

Thanks, I couldn't sign on to it because I use a different computer for the internet and hence couldnt transfer the 3dmark report neccessary ... :(

I really was hoping for a bit better performance considering I cant afford a big upgrade and this is as good as agp gets. Oh well, seems like I'll be playing Crysis and UT2007 in low detail... I'm just going to go and cry a bit...
