I called them today and asked if they would take my PS3 preorder. They said they weren't taking pre-orders yet. Where am I going to preorder it from?

Maybe they learned their lesson from the whole 360 pre-order fiasco where lots of people didn't get them?

They basically have to wait on allocation numbers, they don't want the same thing happening that happened to the 360. When sony gives them the allocation numbers (how many ps3's each store will get), which should be mid september according to reports, then they will start pre-orders. Right now, they just have a big black book (atleast in my local EB's) where they will take your number down and call you when it's time. Each store will get a certain amount of ps3's depending on the previous sales of their sony products like the psp or ps2. (basically, so they can find out which stores will need more)

I've heard, the more you put down (when the time comes), the higher you will be on the list. But that's just a rumor.

Another rumor is that the official sony store in CA isnt even taking pre-orders at all, some think its because free press for Sony when news channels catch hundreds of people waiting in line for hours at the biggest sony store around. Some speculate some kind of launch party happening the night before.

But yeah, around sometime in september (my guess around TGS time) you, me, and every one else will be able to pre-order in NA (EU is already allowing pre-orders, and some spots in canada). You may be able to find a Mom and Pop video game store who don't care about pre-orders to put your name on a list.

You can reserve it depending on the store, mine allowed me to put money down on it. It's not like they don't have the SKU for it yet...

so what is the SKU? I'm assuming it's a part number or something. I just want to know what I'm talking about when I go in there and ask again.

Interesting no stores around me are taking them. How will they know how many of each SKU they will get? If they over pre-order, I suspect that specific store could have some problems come launch day. (or a bunch of phone calls the previous week/day saying they were pushed off the list)

They don't know the quantities but some stores don't care because its money for them at the present time. Calls are worthless, best to walk in and ask...

No stores in the NYC area are taking pre-orders at the moment. I did find a few Gamestops that will take your information (name and phone number) and contact you when pre-orders are available (like Bad_Boy mentioned). The Xbox 360 pre-order fiasco had tons of customers up in arms so I don't blame stores from holding off on pre-orders until some solid figures are known.

I think most gamestop's and ebgames (both ebgames technically) have that policy of taking your name down. I could be wrong though. Where did you pre-order from Magus?

I'm paid in full at 2 local Gamestops. Whether or not they are "supposed to" has no bearing on what these individual stores will do.

The one Gamestop that took my information is in Ridgewood Queens NY and the other that I heard about from a close friend is in the 14th street Union Square area.

With those games though, that's actually not too bad considering they retail for 50 a piece.

Also got a feeling, with a firm like Freeman's, you pre-order and get accepted, you will get the console on launch.

425 + 50= 475. Where are they getting the extra 75 from? Thats a rip off mate.
