View Full Version : MSI NX7950GX2 Review
Steve Angelly has completed his review of the MSI NX7950GX2 graphics card. Based on NVIDIA's GeForce 7950 GX2 GPU, Steve pairs the NX7950GX2 with his mid-range system and checks out performance in Far Cry, Doom 3, F.E.A.R. and Oblivion.

Here's a bit from the 3DMark05 results, which pretty much sums up the type of performance that the NX7950GX2 can offer:
You begin to appreciate the sheer power of the NX7950GX2 as doubling the resolution from 1024x768 to 2048x1536, with 4X antialiasing, only resulted in a 34.5% decrease in the overall 3DMark05 score.

Adding in your 7900GT scores to the Benchmarks would have shown the performance difference to help determine if an upgrade is at all useful.
Good article otherwise.
Thanks for the suggestion and compliment.
The reason I did not was first, I did a quick review here at nV News of the 7900 GT when it first came out and second the scores would have been extremely lopsided in comparison. The GT review basically used the same benchmarks except for Oblivion.
For example, the GT scored 8096 in 3DMk'05 at 1280x1024 with no AA/AF and 6700 with 4xAA. I do not think this would be fair to the 7900 GT as I still say the 7900 GT is an excellent card for current games and especially at resolutions of 1280x1024 which is native to most 17 and 19 inch LCDs.
In games such as FEAR you will note that the comparison would be at 16x12 for no AA/AF and 1920x1440 for 4xAA for the GX2 to compare results recorded by the GT at 1280x1024. I really do not see the need to go with a GX2 below resolutions of 1680x1050 and I tried to convey this in the review.
I do appreciate your suggestion and will give more consideration to making comparisons. I just omitted specific performance comparsions between these two cards for the reasons I have stated.

Rytr -
Thanks for getting back to me.
The reason I asked is because I have an eVGA 7900 GT KO that I run at 1680 x 1050, so I personally had an interested in seeing the card compared at the resolutions and settings you used in this article.
You're welcome and sorry for not putting in what you were look for but I hope you did take time to look at the 7900 GT CO Superclocked review. Guess I should have at least referred to it since I used the same system. I did not use the 1680x1050 resolution but you can get an idea by looking at the 1600x1200 results.

Great review Steve...very thorough and well-written. Looks like a completely badass card and I am continually impressed with how well the 7-series performs and continues to scale upwards.
Good job.
Thanks. Nice card for Oblivion and the 91.47 drivers have made it even better for this game.

I finally installed the 91.47 drivers...now I'm intrigued and am looking forward to seeing what (if any) improvement they've made for me. :)
