I cant even see the control panel for Nvidia to change it to classic.

I right click on the desktop and goto the display properties where i can change the screen res, and click advanced expecting to see the nvidia panel, but just default windows 1

Has it been moved in Vista

SKIP THAT

I just changed the Windows Control Panel and now i see the classic windows control panel and the Nvidia control panel is there.

Damn i wish they would stop moving things about....lol

Thanks for the help....Sorry to Hijack the thread...back to topic.

Anyone tryed games in vista yet.

Just tryed GRAW with these drivers and it sucks. Rinning on a Core duo 2.7 Ghz, 2 GIG ram, BFG 7900 GTX, Raid 5 Raptors x3, so i dont think its hardware.

Fresh install with basic drivers except Nvidia driver

I haven't tried games since the first public CTP preview. It was HORRIBLE. I couldn't even get CSS to launch without crashing. ATI driver though. Still it's apparent there is much work left to be done for it to be comparable to XP. If Vista launches and games run slower than XP - a lot of enthusiasts might sit it out until that gets solved.

So far I've tried MS FlightSimX beta, Falcon Allied Force, IL-2 Forgotten Battles and GTR2 demo and all run as fast as they do on XP but I am not able to get AA working in any of them using RC1 and 96.33.

Overall, RC1 is really sweet. Problems I do see are no rear speaker sound in games with my X-Fi even with Creatives beta driver though I do get sound from all 4 in control panel, and I also cannot see my raid0. Matter of fact, only one of my Raptors shows up at all. I'm running RC1 on a separate drive.

Still, very impressing RC. The only thing I would say though is to just go ahead an use the Administrative account. Though the account you can create for daily use has admin rights, it is still a pita to use because you will have to run most legacy apps/utils As Administrator to get them to work correctly, plus when you run using the actual Administrator account, the OS doesn't harrass you near as much :-)

If someone could tell me how to get AA to work, that would be great! I've set it in the global, and even created separate profiles with it at 8s but in-game, there is no AA.

Well, after trying a few more games - GRAW, Doom3, I guess I will be booting into XP more than Vista for now.

Game performance in those two were really bad.

If you have a Creative sound card you might as well forget about X64 because the drivers will not work in the newer builds. They install just fine, but they aren't signed, and the newer builds don't allow that.

The old BCDEDIT trick doesn't work anymore. The only way you could use them is to press F8 on each boot, and choose allowed unsigned drivers. Otherwise it will not load the driver. This is the way it's going to stay too according to what I've read from Microsoft.

96.33 for me on Vista 5600 = NOPE....blue screen of death after installing (at reboot) and the only way to fix it is to boot into safe mode and uninstall the 96.33 driver or go to a system restore point.

I tried installing the drivers manaully, and using the included setup.exe, neither way gets the OS happy. This is on a fresh install, I even tried it on the previous "upgrade install" from 5536-->5600 and same result. Surprisingly, the upgrade install was flawless until I tried loading the NV driver. At that point I was leary of the upgrade and went ahead and installed fresh to eliminate that potential issue, no luck.

Guess my particular combo of hardware/software and the NV driver just hate each other. Next revision please.

Try running stock speed during the install. Vista seems really picky about overclocking.

Settings that are 100%, 8hr dual Prime stable under XP would not even allow me to install Vista, much less any real stability.

Under XP I am stable with CPU at 3ghz. I have to run my CPU at 290 under Vista. I'm sure if I spent the time to re-tweak my memory I could get a higher OC under Vista, and I may get to that one day.

Has anyone got a 7950GX2 to work under Vista RC1 without getting a BSOD?

On a slightly different topic... Gaming aside, the only thing that prevents me from switching to Vista completely (for work, basically) right now is the lack of nVRotate in 96.33 (x64). While the release notes mention the feature as available, it is not available in the control panel for me (no matter which view I choose). Could anyone with Vista x64 RC1 verify whether they can actually see the option?

TIA :-)

Of course it's slow. OS is beta, drivers are beta, hell even DX is still beta. And i mean early stage beta, not a beta like we're used with latest ForceWare for WinXP.

Early stage beta's should not be labeled as release candidates.. Give me a break MS...

I'm sorry, but since when has MS been responsible for nvidias driver development?

It's purely their issue at this point. Clearly if you actually read their release notes it says these are for developer testing.

- This release is intended to serve as a functional preview for application porting purposes, and not as a performance driver.

Sheesh! Then don't include a buggy version of nVidia's video driver with something called a "release candidate". RC1 is totally misnamed. Calling it that, was just a marketing ploy on MS's part, because they didn't want to give the appearance that the production release of Vista was falling even further behind schedule.

If MS can get this thing out to even the enterprise users by December, my hats are off to them. As for gaming, I seriously doubt that we will see a useable OS by January or even later in 2007. In any case, probably the only safe way to upgrade to Vista is to (shudder) buy a complete system from a reputable PC vendor with Vista already installed. Maybe that's what the whole industry wants to happen.

Dunno man. I'm gaming pretty good with Vista. I just cannot run at 1920x1200 like I do under XP but that is because there is no SLi support yet. As for stability, Vista has been rock solid for me though I can tell there is still some touching up to do with the GUI interface, or maybe just learning curve on my part, but overall, Vista does look and run very well for me.

You really don't sound as if you've run RC1 but if you have, it's strange that your experience is so different from the many others. Sure, the video driver is not complete, but what would one expect? I'm sure nVidia is chasing a moving target, just as Creative, and many other developers, but to have a driver that at least allows basic functionality at this point, seeing Vista is several months from general release, is pretty good if you asked me.

Marketing a beta? You serious?

I have a bridge I could sell you at a bargain!

For god sakes how can you label Vista as Release Candidate when something as simple as the search function still doesn't work right... This OS still has a long way to go my friends.
