View Full Version : We bought a new digital camera and a Plasma!
Yup. :D
Yesterday, we bought a Canon PowerShot S45 digital camera and a Panasonic TH-42PW5 Plasma. The Plasma is a 42" widescreen. It will be delivered on Saturday, but we have the digital camera now. :)
The Plasma will be setup with our Klipsch Reference Series 7 speaker home theater.

Very nice. That will compliment your kick ass surround sound quite well.

Kain,
Please let us know how 3D games look on it. I can't wait to hear about how any leading 3D shooter, adventure game, rpg or whatever runs and looks on it. I heard that the nature of the plasma picture acts as a very good form of anti aliasing so it more than makes up for a resolution that is far below the 1600x1200 of 19" monitors. That is, I've heard the 3D gaming graphics on it look like they are high res.
I'm concerned that a 3D game may look stretched out at full width, but you can always play it with bars on the left and right sides for the best perspective if forced to, correct? I would not mind the bars on the left and right, much like I don't really mind the bars on the top and bottom of dvd widescreen movies on my standard size tv set. You can always block off the bars with paneling of some kind if they are that much of a distraction. If any of this is baloney that I'm saying, let me know. I can't afford to try it out so I want to learn about it at least.
Edit: Wonder why more haven't asked about how games will look on it?

Well, I might hook it up with my computer for a while to check it out, but it will be used for home theater only.

Careful with stationay objects on large plasma screens, you can cause stuck pixels. I was surprised to hear this, but up till last year I attended every Zenith/LG seminar, and last 2 were about their plasma/LCD offerings.
Was also interesting to know plasma screens have basic life of a CRT projector, they age kinda the same losing intensity over time.
One example the fellow gave us was the airport in Atlanta Georgia, they installed a pile of plasma screens in the walkways and they insisted on a logo to be left up when no program was playing, it ruined the screens.. video games are famous for this (albeit, not todays 'action' games) but I wouldn't leave the title screen up while I ate dinner.
GL with your new toys :)
The first generations of Plasma TV's did have a limited life, but they are much better now.
