Had to stop by & say WOW! Just traded up to an A64 4800X2 cpu from a A64 4000 & jumped from 10500 ish in 3D Mark 05 to 12400's, the strangest thing is in Aquamark again i jumped from 85000'ish to 99000'ish (Great) but the score showed the biggest increase against GPU score, from 13452 to 20500 & cpu only jumped score by around 120?

Hope all that makes sense, it's late here......
Btw, fsb is clocked to 212mhz.

awesome, now just imagine if you went to a conroe :DWell how much greater performance depend on which Conroe he would buy but for sure he would have to spend much more money on new mobo and memory.
The guy just upgraded and is very happy for what he has, so why not let him enjoy.
Like I would not mind to have 4800+, for my system it would represent about 10% performance boost.
Considering it would overclock at least as well as the 4200+ I have now.

I never said his upgrade sucked. You guys jump to conclusion to fast.

I think most are just pretty much sick of the intel fan boys jumpin in every time with should got a conroe in an AMD motherboard thread.

I'm not an intel fanboy, but I do like their chips. I was kidding about the conroe statement anyways.

Awesome on your upgrade though. I have been thinking of going dual core for a while now.

I am thinking of going dual core very but do not want to spend money on the whole new rig for conroe. I am thinking of just upgrading from my socket 939 3200+ to a X2 3800, just to hold me over for now.

I wasn't implying you were I seen the similie, I was just saying what I think is the case look at almost any AMD thread and there's always someone or another jumping in with the should of got a conroe that is why I think more than a few are just plain sick of it and you get that kind of reaction.

That is a nice little upgrade I went from a 3000+ to 3800+ I got it used on Ebay for like $130 when the price drop happened in July that was than I paid for the 3000 hell of a deal works great.

Ok lol, yah the X2's are awesome chips if you already have an amd mobo.

Kinda similar to rolling off and telling her "Awesome, but just imagine if you had those enlarged". :p You can't be serious that you weren't diss'n his upgrade as it's all in the tone.

Thanks for the comments guys (cept Roadhog's J/K), only reason i upgraded was price, the ass has fallen out of the price of x2's here in UK over last couple of months, got the 4800 for 199.00 english, i'll sell the 4000 for 100 & voila, 99 total cost for much performance gain, velly happy...(nana2)

It a nice upgrade and when you don't have the cash to upgrade your chip and memory and motherboard ,plus the price of the A64 X2 have falling to over half price and that is a big plus and the benchmarks I have seen the conroe is'nt that much faster in 3D Mark 06.

A performance increase is great no matter how much silicon or silicone is involved. Just as long as you're happy with the results. :D

I wasn't dissing his upgrade. If I was I would have never said it was awesome. I would have just plain out say nothing.

How come in in the benchmark 3D Mark 06 the conroe is not that much faster then the old A64 X2.

Doesn't 3DMark focus on GPU power overall? I mean sure it does tax the CPU, but not to the extent you will see a difference between high end CPUs.

yah you see the difference, a little difference is a huge difference.

What i found strange was the huge jump in GPU score on Aquamark, CPU score only went up ny 1 or 2 hundred but GPU went up by nearly 15000?

The new CPU must have unleashed extra GPU performance?

Old score was 85000'ish & new score 99000+ ?

Actually, he wouldn't get any increase. Current gen GPU's aren't pushing Conroe at all.

Because the Conroe is paired with a current-gen video card. Current gen-cards are not bottlenecked by the processor. An X2 like mine will get nearly identical performance paired with a GTX or GX2 as a Conroe will.

There is an individual here who benchmarked just 100 points higher than I did in 3dMark06 with a single GX2 paired with an X6800 Conroe. He scored 8100; I scored 8,000.

Conroe just isn't needed yet. When G80 or R600 hit, that'll most likely change. But right now, it's good for nothing but guys with lots of money to cream all over themselves about their SuperPi scores.

ya mine went from 95,000 with my 4000+ and that was overclocked to 2.8gig and when i put my new X2 4800+ and left it stock i went to 95,000 also. i notice my gpu went from 13,000 to 16,900 dang thats a jump but yet my cpu was at 10,500 or something like that.

Conroe is overrated IMO when you factor in the prices.... So what .. a few FPS more in a game when you already well above 60 FPS... big deal... its a trivial difference. Nice upgrade... I myself have been going back and forth between AMD and Intell recently unsure of what to get still. But I am leaning toward AMD once again because the prices are unbeatable and the performance difference it below trivial.
