Allready? (http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,2012121,00.asp)
This begs the question, would it be a "better" purchase than a Conroe?

eh, its not native quad core, amd has quad coming out this year to, and its a native quad core, itll most likly be quite a bit better than the kents.

maby, but weve seen the piss-poor results of 2 cores taped together. Now why intel would release such a product is beyond me, they just like taking shortcuts i asume.

Except last time the cores were together the architecture already sucked. Pentium D 800 and 900 chips sucked. But as we know:D Core 2 Duo architecture rocks! So I really believe they could even duck tape or whatever the want with the E6700 cores and it would still work great.:D

it may work great, but it would perform much better native, and i belive amd will definatly take the win at quad core.
a12ctic is a broken record.

Of course a "native" quad core may be better, but look how much the Conroes are spanking the AM2's right now, it would take a lot of catching up on AMD's end.

What is the difference between a native and a non native quad core?

Non Native Quad Core's rape and pillage the motherboards of Native Quad Cores.
What is the difference between a native and a non native quad core?
Designed for multi-core functionality from the conception, into design of the ASIC then into production as possed to thinking about it later and implementing it with half gap measures. However, half gap measures may suffice for casual users.
intel has a little problem with there bus...i think the bus really holds multi socketed multicores back in a big way. we need to remember that problem is in no way a reflection on the processors themselves...i think quadcores are a great step in the right direction. ecspecially in the server space....vm anyone.
A quad core Kent looks tasty but knowing it will be part of the extreme product line it will probably cost 1000$+.

What is the word on K8L? Isn't that targeted to compete with the Kents?

I guess I should rephrase;
Given certain upcoming games (UT'07, Crysis) are supposed to take advantage of dual/quad cores, how much of a difference do you think a Kent will make over a same speed Conroe? Would such a Kent be worth the additional $$$ on a practical scale?

The price IS going to be a $1000, but is it really needed right now? I think they should debut them in June of next year. It's too soon for quad core now. But hey, anything to make money.

I doubt it, considering there aren't any current games that take advantage of Core 2 Duo, much less Quad core procs.
However, I'll wait until UT2007 comes out to see whether that scenario changes...

once games get ported to multiple cores, these things will be beasts, there already are a few games that support multiple cores, its just a matter of time till everygame does.

After seeing the physics in Crysis- I find it hard to believe that is done via "traditional" means.
I'm pretty certain that either they are utilizing multiple cores (as in one or more cores fully or mostly dedicated to physics) or they are taking advantage of ATi/nVidia Havok physics. As all talk about the physics in Crysis seem to point to the CPU- I'm wagering on it beeing a multi-core system.

Uberfanboy talk's **** again. You try sticking duct tape to your conroe and see what happens.

Thats what I'm talking about. Will duo core be enough (1 for traditional CPU tasks and the other to do physics in game) or will quad bring more to the table (AI on a third? etc)

Prolly it will help with Crysis, but the gfx card(s) will continue being the bottleneck, if you raise the resolution/FSAA/AF a little.

Difference between "native" and "non-native", in terms of performance, is close to zero. AMD has still nothing to compete with Core 2 Duo, which is, after overclocking, 60-90% better than AMD.
Well, I am waiting 2-3 months, and will buy Intel quadcore :-) I thought I would not wait, as I cannot stand anymore my slow X2 4400+ (compared to Core 2 Duo), but I will, as I also hope NVIDIA SLI will run on Intel chipsets, giving us a very stable platform, unlike buggy nForce4/5 chipsets (having problems with NIC, HDD and rebooting randomly) for AMD.
