Suggestions?

Is it worth it to pay for one like WS_FTP, or will a freebie like FileZilla do the same thing for free?

SmartFTP is a nice one. WS_FTP used to be better back when it was free for non-commercial use.

No it not worth buy FTP clients, you better off get free download manager that has build in FTP client like DAP, Gozilla, Reget etc. If you want to get rid of adverts then you will have to pay for it. I use DAP 8.1 Premium, it the best download manager and used the smallest memory footprint of 2 to 4Mb of memory than Free Download Manager used 8Mb of memory.

I've been using FileZilla recently. Seems just as good as WS_FTP which is what I used to use.

I know it doesn't really answer your question but Flash FXP is very nice and definitely worth buying.
