Hello !

I'd like to buy an 23" Apple Cinema Display. I plan on connecting it to a GF4 DVI out. Apple offers a ADC->DVI adapter, can anyone confirm that this works in fact with a normal PC DVI gfx card ? What about the lack of control software ? Is i.e. the fact that I can't change the brightness a significant problem ? Also, does anyone know the response time of that display or played DVDs/Games on it ? I would also be interested in any general user experiences with the display.

Thanks for your time,
Tim

Heh, I don't think you'll get many 'pc' user experiences here since most ppl do have to extra 3K to throw down on a new monitor;) From what I've seen the actually performance is very good and comparible to a standard high rez/ref crt monitor. Not sure about adjust the options though. You may get better opinions from a mac forum.

It is possible to connect an Apple Cinema display to a PC via that adapter. A demo HP computer at CompUSA was hooked up this way (vid card was a GF4 MX). I was able to adjust display brightness via the NVIDIA driver control panel. From reviews I've read, these displays aren't the best for gaming, but for desktop work and DVD viewing, you won't find a better LCD. :)

Nah, it's jusk 2K USD ;-) Or 2300-2500€ here in Germany.

Thanks for confirming that I can in fact attach it to a PC gfx card using the Apple DVI adapter.

Gaming is not THAT important for me, but it should look "good enough". I guess I'll need to order one and try it out ;-)

Thanks !

Hi,

FYI: Running a 23" Apple Cinema Display off the end of a PC running Linux (SUSE 8.1) now. All works OK. Actually using the DVIator DVI to ADC convertor from DrBott. I'd imagine the apple one would work as well...

With regard to brightness - not solved that one yet - that was why I was scanning this board!

If anyone does have any ideas on how the brightness can be controlled from linux that would be great. I've read (but not verified) that one cn control the brightness from within Windows using an Nvidia control panel... so it must be physically possible...
