Thanks Mike!
It's a great board, even despite the few issues I had with mine. :)
Nice review. :)
I can relate to the problems you were/are having with the MSI board.
I work for CPC-SA and we recently did an AM2 motherboard roundup. All in all the AM2 motherboards were found to be lacking especially coming from champions like the DFI NF4-SLI-DR and the like which were easily going over the 300Mhz HTT speeds at 3X LDT. Sadly this is not the case with many of these AM2 boards.
Anyway, I'm not sure if this can help you but it did make a difference on both the MSI K9N SLI Platinum and the K9N Platinum we had for testing.
*Seems Memory speed is tied to HT multiplier. Raise the HT speed too much and the memory will drop to single channel mode or the board will refuse to boot.
*Setting Hyper-Transport speed to 200Mhz allows the motherboard to reach 290MHz HT, but it will not be possible to run 1T at that speed irrespective of voltage etc...
* It is possible to run 1066Mhz RAM (assuming the 200Mhz LDT speed is selected)
* Cooling the North bridge and power regulation circuits most definitely helped the motherboard overclock better as NB just runs too hot to be comfortable with (Abit AN9x Fatal1ty suffered also from NB temps above 65'C!)
* Unplugging the 4-pin molex from the motherboard increased stability at high speeds for some reason.
* Highest RAM clock was 1,040MHz (4-4-4-12 2.15V) @ 260MHz
Tested using:
AMD Athlon64 FX-62 (0630)
MSI K9N SLI / Platinum (08/02/06 Bios)
OCZ PC8000 Gold XTC (5-6-6-5-15)
Aopen 500Watt PSU
At any rate as problematic as this board can be, it's far better than the Asus ROG Crosshair board, that was just a waste of time. :(

Hey, thanks for the feedback and tips, I really appreciate it! I'll have to find some time after midterms to play around with it some more using what you suggested. :)
No problem. This board (and it's SLi brother) caused headaches for us when it arrived. After sorting it out it became better than many of the others. Will experiment some more now and give you more info etc...
Good luck on mid-terms :)

this system i bought 4 month's ago i build it my self no garenty but i know the shop owner so i can get testing stuff easy.
from the beginning i got blue screen of dead's bsod ( stop 0xc ...77 en 7a)
i replaced power sup ,memory mobo hd's are oke tested on mobo msi k9VGM-V
no bsod but this mobo is to small for the gto video card
now i got
Antec Midi Tower 430Watt cooler master green power 16 db
MSI K9n SLI PLAtium bios flashed to 1.3
CPU AMD Ath64 AM2 3500+ 512 BOX
2x kingston DDR2 ValueRAM 1024Mb 533 MHz PC4200 dual channel kit
MSI NX7900 GTO 512 ddr3
2 xHDD WD 320GB 16MB SATA II WD3200KS not in raid maby later (no BSOD)
DVD RW NEC ND-4570 16xDL 5xRAM BLACK BLK

and still i got BSOD 77 kernel_stakck_inpage_error :(
mostly when i move or copy a movie of 4gig from 1 hd to the other one.
i think the prob comes from the nforce drivers from cd of nvida.com non works fine.
i removed them and disabeld the sm bus divice
