Copy all the files from Godfather The Game DVD to a folder named Godfather on your hard drive.
Once it is done copying, browse (open) the Godfather\Autorun folder on your hard drive. Inside there, you should see a autorun.cfg file. Right-click on it, and open it with Notepad or some other text editor such as Notepad++ (http://sourceforge.net/projects/notepad-plus/) (if you have it (highly recommended)). Edit the line (line 13) where it says
DirectXVersion=9.0c
and make it
DirectXVersion=0
Save the file, with File > Save (Don't use Save as...!!), to make absolutely certain you keep the original file extension (.cfg)!
Go back to the root folder Godfather. Right-click on Autorun.exe. Go to Properties > Compatibility. Then check "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select Windows 2000 from the dropdown box. Click apply and/or OK.
Now double-click on Autorun.exe. Setup should start as normal (i.e. like you just stuck the disc in).
Good luck!
I copy all files to my hdd and i open autorun.cfg whit notepad and i rewrite this: directxversion: 9.0c

Hi everyone, this is my first post here - great forum.
I found this forum whilst searching the solution to the DirectX 9.0c problem when installing Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 on my new Vista 64-bit PC.
I've followed the solution set out above, copying all the files from the DVD to the C: drive, changed DirectX value in autorun.cfg to 0, made sure it's saved properly, changed both autorun.exe and setup.exe to run in Windows 2000 mode, and tried to run the install from both of these.
Now it simply says it won't install because it needs DirectX 0 or higher!
I tried changing it to need DirectX 10 (the version I have) and it says it needs at least DirectX 10. I also tried leaving the value blank, and deleting that line altogether. None of these worked either.
So it doesn't seem able to detect what version I have and react accordingly. Any more ideas anyone?
Any more help gratefully received.

OK a quick update - it's now working!
Here's what I did:
I deleted the DirectX line from the .cfg file, AND deleted the entire DirectX folder from the DVD copy folder. And bingo!
Hope this may be useful for others...

I want to say thanks to rewt and to tell him that his solution worked only by editing the autorun CFG. Thanks dude!
