I just recently purchased EA's the Godfather The Game PC-DVD version.
I'm running Windows xp x64 with the most recent NVIDIA driver version release which is ForceWare Release 90 Version: 91.47 Release Date: September 1, 2006 WHQL Certified I also have the most current DirectX release installed on my computer from release date 8/8/2006 DirectX 9..0c
Why am I getting the following error message when I try to install this game?
Error Message:
Installtion cannot continue because the game requires DirectX 9.0c or higher to be installed on your system.
I have the latest version! Would anyone know why I can't proceed to install this game? :thumbdwn:
Sounds like it's incompatibile with x64.
If you have dual-boot setup, install it in Win32. It will probably play on x64 then...
Sorry can't think of much else. Maybe someone else knows a trick.

run the installer in win 2000 compabiltiy mode.
EA ****ed up the installer, same goes for almost all other EA games released in the past year or so
Good thinking nekrosoft13. I forgot about that one. I once needed to do that for Need For Speed... which is another EA game.

Great! Would you please tell me how to do that step by step? Thank you! ;)
I will explain since I'm here..
Open My Computer. Start > My Computer.
Explore the drive the game is in by right-clicking on that drive > Explore.
Right-click on setup.exe (or whatever the installer is named), and go to Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab. Then check "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select Windows 2000 from the dropdown box. Click apply.
Now try and run setup again. i.e. double-click on setup.exe

None of the above suggestions helped me resolve the problem. I do want to thank you all for your valued support and suggestions regardless of the out come.

I have seen this error with many EA games and the only way around it was to copy the first (installation) cd to my HD and changing the DX version in the Autorun.cfg to 0. You can then start the install off the cd on your HD and insert the rest of the cds as usual when asked.

This is a The Godfather DVD-PC release....not a PC-Disc set.

So how do I do that? Autorun.cfg to 0? Please advise? thanks! ;)

I'm still needing an answer please? :o
Copy all the files from Godfather The Game DVD to a folder named Godfather on your hard drive.
Once it is done copying, browse (open) the Godfather\Autorun folder on your hard drive. Inside there, you should see a autorun.cfg file. Right-click on it, and open it with Notepad or some other text editor such as Notepad++ (http://sourceforge.net/projects/notepad-plus/) (if you have it (highly recommended)). Edit the line (line 13) where it says
DirectXVersion=9.0c
and make it
DirectXVersion=0
Save the file, with File > Save (Don't use Save as...!!), to make absolutely certain you keep the original file extension (.cfg)!
Go back to the root folder Godfather. Right-click on Autorun.exe. Go to Properties > Compatibility. Then check "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select Windows 2000 from the dropdown box. Click apply and/or OK.
Now double-click on Autorun.exe. Setup should start as normal (i.e. like you just stuck the disc in).
Good luck!

i would like to add, that in allot of EA games when you copy content to the hdd, autorun.cfg quite often is read-only. you will have to change that too

Digital_Trans, I'm just wondering if the solution provided by rewt worked for you?
Rewt, I tried your suggestion and brings me past the terms of agreement page and the next page it tries to install Direct X and brings me back to the original error of needing to install Direct X 9.0c even though I have it.
Is there any other help you can offer? The games im having trouble with is Madden 07 and Tiger Woods 07. I bought those games and now I cant install and play them.
Well the DirectX version to 0 trick was posted by Dr.Nick. I just posted how to do it, never actually done it myself (I still use Windows 32-bit to avoid headaches like this..)
If it worked for Dr. Nick, then it should work for you. Go back and make sure you didn't save autorun.cfg file as .txt. And remember, you must try to install the game from hard drive, not from the disc. In fact, I would take out the disc while installing to avoid conflicts.

I had problems with Madden and it worked for me. Just follow that same procedure and it should work.

you can't edit or remove the read-only from files that are on CD/DVD. You have to copy entire content of the disc to the HDD, then you can remove the read-only.

ah, worked, great, thank you
for any other,
Just copy your DVD to exmaple D:\Godfather
then remove the read-only extension, run the 'autorun' and voilá! install!
