I am considering getting a wide screen LCD w/ 1920*1200 res.
I won't be able to afford a setup that can run anything at that native res so I am looking at 1280*800. can 7600GT do AA at that res? or should I go with 7900GT and at what res?

My 7900GT runs great at 1920x1200 :) At around $270, the GT is a steal :)

FEAR, WOW, Lego Star Wars 2 :D, Call of Juarez, Quake 4; pretty much any recent game supports 1920x1200, natively or through a hack of some sort.

Not even, most if not all of my games run at 60FPS on my single GT.

dude, that's too good to be true.
but in any case I will stay away from SLI since if I can have 1280x720 with 4xAA smoothly on a 1920x1200 LCD I will be very happy. 7600/7900 are such good chips I don't even care about the recent craps about R600/G80, i.e. super cooler/external PSU, etc. I am not THAT hard-core ;)

Here's which of my games run at 1920x1200 and other widescreen res on my Conroe/X1900XT setup.

Oblivion - 1920*1200 with decent performance (~35fps average)
Call of Duty 2 - 1920*1200 good performance (~45-50fps)
Half-Life 2 Episode 1 - 1920*1200 4xAA 8xAF (~60fps)

I'll tell you which games DON'T run at that res.

Company of Heroes - barely runs fine at 1680x1050 (40fps average)
Dark Messiah - runs well at 1680x1050 (not so well at 1920x1200)

That's about exactly what I get in HL2, or any Source engine for that matter.

I'm running an XFX 7800GS Extreme Edition on my old DCC workstation (2x2.66GHz Xeon, 2GB ECC RAM) and I can play UT2004 at 1920x1200 with 4xAA nice and smooth.
