7950GX2 couple of issues

I should start with my rig:

AMD 3700 +
ASUS A8N SLI
2 gigs RAM (1 stick per slot)
BFG 7950gx2
ANTEC 450Watt SMART 2.0

Popped this card in yesterday, downloaded the most updated drivers and tested it with a few games. FEAR ran wonderful pulling down an average of 70fps completely maxed out at 1680 x 1050. Now for the issues :)

Loaded up Far Cry which I don't recall ever glitching with my 7800GT.(previous card) Far Cry would constantly hard freeze at various points (had to manually restart the PC)

Also, on bootup I find that it frequently hangs on the WINDOWS XP screen with the progress bar still moving along. The longest wait had been about 40 seconds... then it boots to the desktop fine.

Finding it strange that it can handle FEAR with no problems but is constantly hard freezing with Far Cry.

Considering doing a reformat and start fresh but wanted to check with the pros first.

Driver issue. Which ones are you using?

Updated to 91.47. Too be honest I don't think I did the cleanest uninstall of the drivers I was using for my 7800GT. When I installed the 7950gx2's software I got quite a few "The current file you are using is newer than the one you are trying to install" message. Perhaps a reformat to make sure all is clean is in order?

try the latest 92.91 driver.

also i had problems with far cry too when i had 7800GT SLi, with HDR on i was getting 6-7FPS, uninstalled the game, and no more worry

haha thats a great fix.

I've got a 7950 GX2 coming tomorrow to play with. Using an overclocked X1900XTX right now, just wanted something new to play with and I have a buyer for the X1900XTX so I was able to do this for little cash. I'm hoping its a worthy move. I'm bummed about losing h20 on the GPU for now. I expect to move to G80 or R600 when they launch anyways.

Driver issue. Which ones are you using?

Was a driver issue indeed. 91.47 comes with my install software and from reading through a few threads, some people were having the exact same issues as myself with the freezing regarding this driver. Went back to 91.31 and all seems good at this point. Have lost 3 FPS on FEAR but atleast we are stable :)
