Send the MS Vista core development team a complaint/bug report. It's located on their Vista webpages under the heading of "scenarios":

http://windowsbeta.microsoft.com/vista/intro.aspx

I DLed the 64 bit version of build 5728 last night, but I won't get to test out the install with my 7950 GX2 rig until this PM. I'm not expecting much.

EDIT: Yep, it gets further, but it still BSODs. And I'm really not interested in trying to fool it by temporarily suspending the installation and copying files from the 96.33 nVidia video driver set. That's too much work, considering that most people haven't really said much either good or bad about the RC1 builds. I played enough with the various Vista beta builds to know that: a) Most of the improvements that you can use now are just eye candy and b) when new hardware and software come out to take advantage of Vista, then it will be worth getting.

There is a fix - a hack, as it were.

See here (http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=85252) for information on how to hack the nvidia drivers so your 7950GX2 will install (worked perfectly for me).

I know yeah... It's not that it's beyond me or anything, it's just a pain in the ass... I've got Vista on a different box in my house, I'll live with XP for games for now :)

Just install vista with a different vid card in the machine, then once it's done install, put your 7950GX2 in, it'll run fine, but at that point best just dl the newest drivers for vista.

Its not like Vista is even faster than XP for gaming, I wouldnt sweat it.

There's still hope. MS will issue RC2 of Vista on Friday. It's build 5743:

They almost "must" sort it this time, we're so close to RTM now it's a joke...

I think it's nvidias drivers that may need sorting :)

nvidia needs to provide new driver for MS

I know yeah, but the fact they've either not pressed, or at least got something semi functional in there to at least finish the install is pretty poor this late in the day don't you agree?

problem is that multi-gpu rendering (sli and crossfire) modes will change

there won't be SFR any more. DirectX simply won't work.

both companies are making new modes.

Woo hoo! Vista RC2 ( x64 Build 5744) installs perfectly with my 7950 GX/2. The x86 RC2 works too, but why go backwards? The nVidia video driver is 96.77 and it doesn't have a control panel that I can see, although the built-in Vista display settings work fine. Now that MS$ has fixed the 7950 installation problem, I can go back to getting my printers, scanner, audigy sound card and video games to work. It's been a long gap since Vista beta 2, which was the last version that worked for me.

BTW, does anyone know why the RC2 thread was locked?

Nice, but from what I've seen, still doesnt sound like SLI is working for games in Vista. Besides that MS is telling everyone Vista will be 10-15% slower in games than XP. Great job guys -

Because there's already a discussion in Windows Forum here (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=77673).
