Anyone else watching the Atlanta vs. New Orleans game tonight?
Theres a lot of hype around it because its the first game the Saints will play back in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina hit.
I'm just glad I'll get to see the Falcons play on TV for once. They've been my team and my brothers team for a very long time, but in my area it seems like the only ones that are ever on are the Giants and Steelers games. :p
Who do you think will win?
Its also interesting because Morton Andersen (the kicker that kicked the winning fieldgoal that sent atlanta to the super bowl in '98) is back on the team and this will be his first game in a while.

Well the Falcons dont appear to be doing to good. :o
Actually, the saints are doing really well... they're pulling a lot of crazy plays out of nowhere.
Theres still a chance, but I'm not going to get my hopes up too much. :p
I am and Atlanta are getting their butts kicked. New Orleans field goal right at the end of the half rubs salt in the wounds of the Falcons.

Falcons played HORRIBLY tonight.
What a disapointing game.
It wasnt even interesting past the first quarter. I dont know what the hell the Falcons were doing. They hardly ran the ball at all, and thats their strong point.
Its like they knew they werent going to win so they just did random crap the whole time.
Very sad.

Another thing I hated about last night's game was how the commentators politicized the game. Their comments were so much bs, I couldn't stand watching it. I mean, come on....they even had Spike Lee in the booth talking about Katrina and the gov't's relief efforts. I felt like I was watching a 2.5 hour long Kanye West documentary. :rolleyes2

IMO, it is quite unrealistic to think that there wouldn't be a bit of politicizing (is that even a word?!) in the first game in N.O. in over a year. I really don't care much for this year's MNF crew so I pay little attention to what they say anyways, regardless if it has to do with football or politics or anything else. I thought Spike showed pretty good self control.....considering his track record on the subject. The funniest comment of the night belonged to him when he said Isaiah would win coach of the year!
Regarding the game....what can one say? The Saints used the formula that everyone who wants to beat the Falcons has used for the past five or so years. Make Mike beat you with his arm and he'll fail four out of five times. Chuck the ball deep or try short to medium passes to Crumpler. You don't need to be a defensive guru to stop that. ;)
Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I believe no team could have beat the Saints lastnight.
Atlanta kept repeating the same failing plays on both O and D. Bush was running all over them and only had one man covering him the entire time. ATLs pass rush was practically non-existant and they kept using zone coverage in the back which allowed NO to get one completion after another. Most of Dunns runs were straight up the middle to do nothing but meet the blitz at the line of scrimmage.
I call BS on the entire game.
NO came in 2-0 against the freakin Browns and the Packers. Two teams that are sucking BAD this year. Plus, they have a ton of new players and a new coach, no way could they outplay ATL unless something was fishy. ATL had the #1 rushing O in the league and like the 5th D and its as if they didn't even show up.
If you ask me, there was way too much importance put on this game for the Saints to lose. If this game was played at ATL, I would put money on a different outcome. All this rebuild NO and come visit our city crap...there's no way the Saints could have lost.

I agree. You are a conspiracy theorist. :p
Seriously, Atlanta played the worst game I've ever seen them play with Vick. I'm inclined to agree with you.

Sorry dude, but your conspiracy has more holes than all 9/11 conspiracies combined. Half the teams in the NFL could have gone to N.O. last night and won.
Bush had another decent game, but there was nothing special about his performance. Not being able to pick up a yard to get a TD on two straight runs isn't that good. Combine his numbers w/ Deuce's and they had a decent running game, but again, nothing special. Reggie did serve as a nice decoy on a few plays too.
How are Atlanta's two victories over Tampa & Carolina more impressive than the Saint's wins over GB & Cleveland? Cleveland almost beat the 3-0 Ravens on Sunday while Tampa & Carolina both did their best to avoid getting their first wins of the season. In the end, Atlanta's first two opponents are a combined 1-5 and the same goes for the Saints.
If you want to blame someone, blame Atlanta's coaching staff. And if you want a conspiracy, why not look at the obvious? The turf slowed down Vick and Dunn. The Saints practiced there and even if the Falcons knew about the status of the field, what were they going to do, depend on Mike's arm?! :D
I do agree with the turf being an issue for the Falcons.
I still think the game was slated to go to the Saints since day 1. THE return to the superdome wasn't to be marred by a loss.

Man, I agree with everything you guys have said. :p
The whole game seemed fishy to me because they werent playing like themselves (other then Vick being a pretty weak passer). But in the end there are plenty of reasons they failed.
My brother said the saints will probably go on to lose most of their upcoming games and probably not make it into the playoffs... they just "had" to win this one by a landslide because thats just how it had to be. :p
The crowd, the turf, the "emotion", the politics... I dont know what it was, but Atlanta's game was s**t last night. I doubt they will have another game that bad for the rest of the season.

One of the reasons I think that last Monday night's game was fishy is because of how Atlanta rolled all over Arizona. Granted, Arizona is no Super Bowl -bound team, still, something just don't seem right about last week's game...

How about them Bears....
RARRR!!!!

Few more points about last weeks game:
Chris Berman said before the game "I wouldn't even pick the '78 Steelers over the Saints tonight."
The point about Mora having to "prepare" his players for this game. That they had to be mature about how to handle the event under the circumstances that were there (or something to that effect).
Come on guys, teams with NEW coaching, a bunch of NEW players, a NEW QB, and a ROOKIE RB don't just run over an established team. Atlanta has become more refined every year for the past 3 years. Out-played isn't the word to describe the game. Under-coach is what Atlanta did...I wonder how much Nagin payed Blank to win this?

Yep, Atlanta ran all over Arizona.
I wouldnt be surprised if they kept doing this for a while. I think they are looking better so far this year than they have any year since their super bowl game.
How about that 78 yard run by Norwood? That was freaking nuts. We were listening to the game on the online radio feed at nfl.com and they just came back from a commercial and we heard the guy say "NORWOOD!!! 50-40-30-20-10-5-touchdown!" with a countdown faster than any I've ever heard. When I checked the highlights later, I couldnt believe how fast he was running. It didnt even look human. :p
They better protect those guys though. They have a few extremely valuable players and if they lose a single one of them its really going to hurt their season. I think thats what killed them last year... at least I think it was last year. I know one of last couple seasons was totaly ruined by injuries.
It sucks, they're on fire after that last game but now they get a week off. :p

Yea...Atl is looking really good this year. I hope they go to the Super Bowl. I think they deserve it.
Norwood is awesome. Fastest man in the last draft and overlooked by many but not the Falcons. Sad thing is he has to stay in the shadow of Dunn. I think they should try a shotgun offense with 2 RBs some to throw the defense off. :)
