LOL! Nice work! I wonder what schuey has to say about those?

Well, schuey was right about me not getting the performance I thought I was. But regardless, I knew a GTX or XTX shouldn't be dropping down into the teens that is well too low for those cards.
My two 7600GTs give me a minimal of 23fps in realy intense scenes. Atleast, that is the lowest I've noticed, and I do my best to check my fps as frequently as possible now. Never have a seen a number lower than 23 (and I'm checking the numbers like every few seconds, even in firefights). So if my rig isn't even dipping into the teens then something is wrong with Schuey's rig for certain. I know an XTX is a lot faster than even two 7600GTs. Rob's and Xion's numbers sound much more accurate.
In regards to that graph, I don't have time today, but I'll see if I can get to it tomorrow. I have to be to work before too long.
BUt I do agree Schuey, there is something that just isn't right with your rig.
Listen to Xion and Rob dude, they are only trying to help you. Why is that such a bad thing?
And you really can't trust reviews as being perfectly accurate. I agree that they fluctuate in results too frequently. And too many times I've seen results that just don't add up. Rob even linked to two reviews "by professionals" that were completely wrong and incorrect. It happens. Hard as it might be to believe, reviewers aren't perfect- they're humans too ya know. ;)

Um, you guys- this is getting a bit ridiculous.
Schuey wanted a screenshot with about that many dudes, but all of them firing at you at once.
If you really want to, keep trying to get such a screen shot.
Xion, to make it easier, press "t" and then type "god" followed by enter. Then go ahead and capture the perfect screenshot for schuey, if you really want to. ;)
That still doesn't put you in the performance bracket he was talking about, though.
That's what I "don't get."
The lowest he ever stated his system dropped to was 38FPS:
So.. again: ???
And you know whats funny? I stated that before I even ran and posted a pic of that ingame FEAR stress test and what does it show on that test? min 38fps! LOL.
I think that shows how well I pay attention to every little detail while gaming.
Dont get me wrong Im not implying that it never went any lower than that, im sure it may have been around 35-36fps in a couple of places in the game but thats what should be expected from a stock clocked X1900XT. Not frames in the teens, that is just sad.
There is a big diff in 35-38 fps compared to 18-19 fps and I would have noticed if it had gotten that low. Heck my FPS counter that is built into ATI TRAY TOOLS is pretty much idiot proof because anything less than 25FPS and the numbers go from yellow to RED.
Kinda hard to miss.

They were all firing at once. Hence the smoke effects. Check that one screen where there were 5 soldiers on it at one time. That's about as close as you're going to get to such a thing. If he wants more than that, then I can't help him.
If this doesn't prove it, then nothing will. And I'm being gracious on top of that, because I'm choosing the shots where the frames dip the lowest at. For the most part, they stick up around 50FPS.
From my observations, what matters much more than how many characters you have on the screen is how many particle effects are taking place in any given render. Once things start getting shot up all over the place, your frames tend to drop a little. But again, even with 5 soldiers all firing at me at once and leaving bullet decals all over the place, along with some heavy smoke effects, my game never dropped below 35. In fact, it rather surprised me by how easily it would often stick at 50FPS without dropping.

More.
6 soldiers, all firing at me at once. For anyone who's played FEAR, they know that they never just stand there, even if FRAPS may not capture every single bullet that's in the air:

Another:

There were six guys firing at me in that shot. They're not in plain view, but just look at all the particle and spark effects in the air. You can see the gunfire coming from all different directions.
Same with this shot.

5 guys on the screen here--all firing at me.

In this shot, there were four or five guys all firing their weapons. Pay attention to how they shoot the yellow gas can to the left of me, and then look at the frames stay steady at 40+FPS even after the explosion!

Will you give it up already? I'm watching this thread for G80 info; I'm sick of this sideshow that the four/five/six of you are putting on. Right now, I'm of the opinion that this thread should be split or locked.

If you're looking for G80 info, then you're in the wrong place. You need to head on over to the GeForce 6/7 series section. There are only about 50 G80 topics on this forum, anyway.
I'm sorry for things getting off-topic, but I didn't start this.

Bud our point has been proven so Im not gonna post any more pics and I really dont think you need to either. That last couple shots you just posted were awsome and I know how hard it is to hit print screen at just the right time to catch that barrel explosion! Nice job!
I think im gonna go play me some fear now, I want to beat the game again before I purchase Extraction Point.:)

Removing IHS' may not make me the end-all expert on PCs, but it's surely yet more proof that I'm not the noobie you want to make me out to be. And there's nothing risky about doing it on AMD processors unless one is just totally incompetent with their hands (I'm NOT saying you are).....now it takes a bit more balls for the Conroes, but pretty easy none the less.
There's people with less and more experience than me. I don't claim to be the all-wise elder, but I have been building PCs since the 486 days. I was playing around with Commodores and Apple IIc's & e's probably before you were even around. ;)
yeah..right.. good luck getting the IHS off a conroe... They are soldered to the core.
Yea its not easy on Conroe's, Shamino killed 2 e6800's trying :o

^ Good. I was wondering what kind of an idiot it would take to piss 2000$ down the drain playing GI-JOE on a couple of processors.

Oh schuey... where art thou?
...........
I think schuey has gone AWOL. :)
Here's another trusted benchmark done by "professionals." Check it out--betcha never knew a 1900GT could keep up with a 7950GX2!

HL2 Episode I, 1600x1200, 4xAA, 8xAF
X1900GT: 50fps
7950GX2: 50fps
Wow, I guess I'll just go out and buy a X1900GT and save myself the money. So glad we have all these pros to do all our homework for us. Knowledgeable guys, they are. :)

Xion, you must've been pretty bored the past few days.... :p
I just back to Miami Tuesday morning. As I had mentioned a few pages earlier in this thread, I was going to be quite busy with work for a few days and that turned into actually having to fly to B.A. to take care of urgent problems.
Anyways, I tried your boys' driver fix and played F.E.A.R. for ~30-40 minutes last night and it sure seems to have helped a bit. The lowest fps I saw was 31 in scenes were I recall seeing high teens. So in my case this fix seemed to do more than even the ten frames he had suggested. This seems close enough to he performance you guys are seeing on your rigs so I'm not going to do any more checking. Thanks again RobsX2 for the driver fix suggestion.
A small bonus from this last trip to Argentina is that one of my clients is going to take my XTX off of my hands for $360 and seeing as the 8800s are coming next week, it's a no-brainer. I may be stuck with my backup x550 in my gaming rig for a week or so....I guess it's a small price to pay for taking zero loss on my XTX. :)

Hence my statement....

The solder on the conroe melts at around 200F. If done properly, without prying on the IHS, it can and has been done successfully.
If I feel my X2 @ 2.6 can't keep up with the G80 then I will upgrade to a Conroe system and of course remove the IHS. I'll post a pic by pic guide here when I do, along with temp comparisons with and without the IHS.
