View Full Version : the Chinese Grand Prix!
yes, it's that time of year. with 3 races left in the 2006 season, it's time for the first of two fly-aways to the far east--it's the Chinese Grand Prix! :D
qualifying: 2 AM EST Saturday morning. the race: 2 AM EST Sunday morning. ugh. to sleep perchance to dream .... ;)
not including the test drivers for Williams, BMW and Honda, the Ferraris were faster then the Renaults in Friday practice. however, Ferrari and Schumie were dealt a blow as Massa was penalized 10 spots since he needs to change his engine. still, with Schumacher only 2 points behind, this race should be fun to watch. hopefully it's still close for the season finale in Brazil.

some news:
Massa was forced to change his engine. this will hurt Schumie's chances to win the race, unless Massa can get the pole, start 10th and jump up quickly in the first few laps of the race.: http://www.formula1.com/race/news/5029/767.html
the German GP will alternate between Nurburgring and Hockenheim. why not drop the Turkish GP and keep both races? or expand the schedule beyond the 17 races planned for next year? http://www.tsn.ca/auto_racing/Formula_One/news_story/?ID=179017&hubname=auto_racing-formula_one
Ross Brawn doesn't plan on joining Honda next year, but hasn't really committed to Ferrari either: http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=37516 (http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Artic[/URL]le.aspx?PO_ID=37516)
Schumie: Kimi will fair well next year with Ferrari: http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=37489
the Turkish GP organizers have appealed the $5 million fine handed to them for politicizing the podium presentation. too bad. why they brought international politics (Turkey vs Greece) into a celebration of racing is beyond me. they should have been stripped of the race. there are dates available in Italy or Germany .... http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=37469
more news:
Alonso wouldn't mind Hamilton (from GP2) to be his team mate. what does he care anyway? whoever is the 2nd driver will just be there to block anyway, since Alonso is the star: http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=37510
Ferrari: we only ever wanted Kimi. like, there were no other drunken Finns available to drive for your team? http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=37514
F1 wants to lower costs ... by expending more money in developing "green" technology. is this more insanity by the grand poo-bahs that run F1? http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=37429

These Far East races are going to kill my sleep schedule, but no way I'm missing any of Michael's last races or qualifying sessions.
And BigC, there's not going to be more than 18 races because of the Concorde aggreement. Teams get the shaft starting @ 19 and you know who we can blame for that.

Teams get the shaft starting @ 19 and you know who we can blame for that.true re the last three races of Schumacher. even though i'd rather be sleeping, i'll either stay up to watch the race at 2 AM or go to sleep early and wake up to watch it. since this race means something to the championship, i can't miss it.
to paraphrase a former great Maple Leafs GM: Concorde shmomcorde! there were 19 races in 2005, there could be more next year. screw Ecclestone. change the agreement, amend the schedule, expand the season. that's what the fans want anyway--more of a good thing is better then less of it. in F1, contracts are meaningless anyway (ie, drivers signing to other teams whilst still under contract). why should the Concorde Agreement be iron clad, word-from-god?

Why should Germany get 2 races? Let one of them go, and bring back SPA!!!
As I was watching 2nd practice on Speed, I was noticing Alonso "testing" some things out, like a new dampening system? He kept weaving back and forth, etc. MORE than enough to keep the tires warm.

bigC, you don't like kimi?
He's a pretty talented driver dude. :) Him and Massa make for exciting times for Ferrari.
Renault 1-2 in qualifying, with Alonso getting the pole. the Hondas are 3rd and 4th (the best driver in F1 to get only one win in over 100 starts was outpaced by his teammate). Kimi is in 5th and Schumacher will start 6th. hopefully, we won't see Alonso lead from start to finish, but if there is rain, he will be a disadvantage for Schumie as the teams using Michelin rain tires clearly outperfomed the Bridgestone wets.

He's a pretty talented driver dude. :) Him and Massa make for exciting times for Ferrari.i'm not a big fan of kimi. don't really know why, but i agree, he is a really talented driver. if it wasn't for reliability issues with the McLaren, he could have won last year.
wow, what a stunner. and what a great race: Schumacher wins his 91st career race, ties Alonso (who finished 2nd) with 116 points, but takes the lead by virtue of his win totals--he has 7 to Alonso's 6. the next two races will be really interesting to watch. Renault gets the lead in the constructor's race back, leading Ferrari 179-178.
Fisichella finished third for Renault. Button was 4th (thanks in part to kamikazee Sato who made the last few turns interesting), de la Rosa was 5th, Barrichello finished 6th, followed by Heidfeld and Webber.

Sato was disqualified for blocking on the final lap. but he'll likely get a big cheque from Honda for helping Button finish 4th (since Super Aguri is the Honda 'B' team): http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=37548
in one week's time, the second to last race, the Japanese Grand Prix! :D

Super race and awesome display by Michael. After Renault's obvious team orders, I better not hear people bitching if Ferrari does the same in the last two races.
I can see why Kimi wants to leave McLaren.
OUT AGAIN! with mechanical problems. Looks like I'll be a Ferrari fan afterall next year, McLaren has more than dissappointed me :\yah, it's kinda funny that Alonso is leaving a champion team in Renault that is ultra-reliable for McLaren, where if they don't get their act together, he'll suffer the same fate as Kimi--have a really fast car that dies more often then not. he'll regret leaving Renault.
I agree 100%. I just wouldn't hold my breath waiting for ito to happen.....
And now South Korea is getting a race in 2010.....true, nothing in F1 will really change until Ecclestone is kicked out .... or kicks the bucket. :D
Re South Korea getting an F1 race: yet another far-east time zone race that few of F1's established fan base will be able to watch at a reasonable hour. i guess it's good that the sport is growing, but we all know what the primary impetus of expanding to China, SK, etc really is, and that's tobacco advertising, which is banned in Europe and N/A but alive and well in emerging markets like China.
