Intel pledges 80 cores in five years. The chips are capable of exchanging data at a terabyte a second!
Intel has built a prototype of a processor with 80 cores that can perform a trillion floating-point operations per second.

- they're not x86 cores on the prototype
- will you never see 80-core x86 processors (there's no point (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amdahl's_law))
intel also had a press release claiming 20GHZ CPUs by 2008

its not x86 cores, but it is x86 combatablie, watch the video of IDF where he talks about this. They have a registar so they can translate x86 and send back x86 compliant data.

HRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...
First lets make a real good use of a dual-core processor then lets see about more ... :o

yup..lol
I imagine it could be a nightmare for a game developer to try to make effective use of 80 cores in a processor.
Very expensive CPU...2-3 good dies per wafer? Mainframe stuff...
OK I just re-read Tom's HW article, the dies size is pretty small at 22mm by 14mm. Hmm

Tom's Hardware is crap. It's the ghetto PC hangout of the world-wide-web. Weren't they the same ones that claimed a 1900GT outbenched a 7950GX2 recently?
