I'm looking for a way I can disable my PS2 port through Windows XP Pro. I can't do it in device manager so I'm hoping there's another way.
I want to do this because I want to disable the touchpad on my laptop as it gets in the way when I type. I tried to install the drivers for the touchpad which worked at disabling it, but the software generally doesn't get along with MS Intellipoint (where I have a USB Intellimous Optical).
Any leads are always appreciated.
Maybe you can get into a BIOS and disable the touch pad?
(Don't own a laptop, maybe they don't even have a BIOS hah)

Any computer has to have a BIOS, it's all a atter of what options are there for you to adjust. For an OEM, Dell's are pretty good. I'll muck around in there and see what I can find. But keep the suggestions coming in case this doesn't work. ;)
lol!
Well i figured maybe they put something else so you can't fiddle around :p
try disabling it in the device manager, and if that doesnt work try reserving the resources that the PS2 port wants to use, that should mess it up good :D

Just one strip of duct tape over the pad should work

Gator, you can't disable the PS2 port in XP through device manager. You can uninstall, but not disable. :(

I hadn't thought about that, but I'll keep that in mind as a last resort. :D

I went into my BIOS and I can disable the touch pad completely. There's an option I like even more where, if an external PS2 mouse is connected to the system, the touch pad is disabled. I don't want to completely remove the touch pad because a lot of times I'll sit on my couch and use my laptop without any mouse connected to it so in that case I'll want to have the touch pad (actually I like using the little mouse stick) enabled.
Unfortunately, this doesn't work when the mouse is connected via USB so I'll have to get a USB to PS2 adapter (the mouse I bought didn't come with one). No biggie, though. Now this stupid pad won't get in my way any more! :D
Thanks for all your help guys. :headbang:
