Searched for a similar thread I could attach this to.

I know we've thought about it, and yet while this isn't on the level of the Inq or a myriad of other rumor sites, I'm still posting it.

Thoughts?

I have very hard time to believe this takeover will happen but don't mind me I also did not believe the AMD ATI takeover would ever happen

Intel to acquire Nvidia? That really doesnt make sense as Intel made an agreement with Imagination Technologies (http://www.theinq.com/default.aspx?article=34822) yesterday to extend license to use graphics and video IP cores into future Intel CPU cores. Intel acquired Real3D years ago and AMD about weeks away to complete the acquistion of ATI so Nvidia do not fit in Intel current plan.

Nvidia share soared to all time high at $31.09 today before drop to $31.08 at close time value Nvidia at $10.95bn.

I know, it doesn't make sense either.

I didn't mention the use of Imagination because the words I zeroed in on in the article were specifically "acquisition". It's certainly cannot be an acquisition of Imagination, unless they've decided to go ahead and try and purchase the company in addition to extending the existing license.

I highly doubt Intel would purchase nVidia.

AMD purchased ATi simply because AMD needs more marketshare in the integrated segment.

Intel doesn't really need more marketshare, thus purchasing nVidia would only further them towards a monopoly. I doubt this will happen.

Then again, I also doubted that AMD would buy ATi...

Google News (http://news.google.ca/news?q=nvidia%20intel&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&sa=N&tab=wn)
Many more news sites reporting the same rumor.
Including Forbes, Reuters, Blomberg, DailyTech IL, etc.

The rumor is based mainly on very large volume of NViDIA shares traded.
Maybe insider trading ?
Still the rumor should not be official until theINQUIRER reports it, maybe tomorrow :)

I think Nvidia is way too pricey for Intel, but I'd love to see this happen.

maybe not a take over, but a joing venture

i would love to see that, its time for intel to drop crossblow support on their chipset.

if SLI would have native support on intel chipset, i would jump on conroe wagon right a way.

i simply miss the stability of intel chipset

I can't wait if this is true, I might just make the switch back to nVIDIA:D

Thing is none of us thought AMD and ATI would happen, but now look.

When the rumors happened a few months back, it knew it would happen for AMD+ATI, but it WILL NOT happen for NVidia. No way Huang will let that happen. It makes no sense, at all.

If Intel wanted graphics chips, they could have designed them a long time ago, they have the expertise and the money (maybe even the prototypes), but they're not interested in high-end nor midrange.
NVidia has good chipsets, on par with Intel, no reason to associate there.
NVidia wants in the CPU business, but not in a hurry, and on their own.
Both are solid financially, with nothing bad on the horizon.

NVidia+Intel won't happen. Intel might buy one of the smaller guys though, I don't think its VIA/S3, though it could.

I really hope you are right. IMO ATI was always a lame brand anyway.

But NVIDIA has always been awesome to me!:captnkill:

It would be pretty cool. That is until AMD bring out a faster chip and then AMD should buy Intel (which now owns nvidia). Ofcourse the world would probably end.

That's why AMD+ATi made sense, AMD had great management, and no graphics capability, nor chipsets, whereas ATi did (have good chipsets + GPUs).

Half the time when you post I have to step back and say "now did I RLY I understand that comment :surrender". Then my head feels like it will explode from the technical, profound, and complex words you always have to say.:D

I am one of those that thought AMD+ATI was very possible from the get go. and now I read about the editorial about GP+GPU (general purpose), especially now DX10 is on the way and it's totally programmable just like a cpu, and then the direction of dual core and quad core,
well, combining cpu and gpu on one die seems to be inevitable.
so, price wise, it all depends on how far amd+ati is ahead of intel and
HOW DESPERATE INTEL IS!!!
