2GB PC3200 DDR400 in dual channel
ASUS A8N SLI motherboard
SeaSonic S12-430 PSU

ForceWare 84.20 Betas (used in initial benchmarks for the first 4 cards)
ForceWare 91.47 (used for the 7900GTO)

Test Suite:
-3DMark03
-3DMark05
-3DMark06
-Need for Speed: Most Wanted
-Fable: The Lost Chapters

How the Tests were run:

The first 4 cards came factory overclocked, so they were also downclocked to NVidia reference clocks for the sake of comparing 8 cards. I did not adjust the clock settings of the 7900GTO.

Results:

3DMark03: - This benchmark was run at default settings. For the original 8 tests, the NV CP was set to default as well. This was a mistake, and future tests will be more fair. The 7900GTO was tested at HQ settings to be used as a future benchmark.

-7900GT (550/1580)- 5097
-7900GTO (650/1320) - 5441

Need for Speed: Most Wanted: - Custom Race, Sprint, Seaside Power Station, Cobalt SS stock. Maxed in game settings, CP set to 4xAA/16xAF. Due to CPU limitations, the 7900GTO was run at 8xS, with gamma-correct and transpraency AA turned on. This caused a huge performance hit on the older cards and was unplayable.

-6800GS (425/1000)- 24.898
-6800GS (490/1100)- 29.033
-7600GT (560/1400)- 31.263
-7600GT (600/1560)- 33.616
-7800GT (400/1000)- 36.753

-7900GT (450/1320)- 43.542
-7900GT (550/1580)- 44.768
-7900GTO (650/1320) - 33.001*

Fable: The Lost Chapters: - Fable was run in the first town as a young boy, one lap around the town. Same as with Need for Speed, 4x/16x used on all cards except the 7900GTO, which was 8xS/16x, with gamma-correct and transparency AA turned on. Again, on older cads, this was a HUGE performance hit.

-6800GS (425/1000)- 36.702
-6800GS (490/1100)- 41.293
-7600GT (560/1400)- 38.914
-7600GT (600/1560)- 43.002
-7800GT (400/1000)- 47.451
-7800GT (470/1100)- 53.518
-7900GT (450/1320)- 56.536
-7900GT (550/1580)- 64.552
-7900GTO (650/1320) - 44.366

Conclusion:

-This 7900GT Superclock is actually noticably OCed even when compared to the 7950GT, so this card was no slouch. For the sake of these tests, it's fair to say that this card is faster than the 7950GT.

-Despite being run at higher quality settings, the 7900GTO still edged out the 7900GT SC in all synthetic tests. However, it left a stock 7900GT in the dust.

-When running Fable and NFS:MW with the 7900GTO, CPU limitations caused there to be a very small gain in FPS, well within the margin of human error. So, I cranked up everything. For the first time, NFS is playable with every possibly eye candy turned on in the NV CP. Fable is now playable in all areas, and the framerate no longer stutters.

The 790GTO is a winner. Near 7900GTX speeds at bargain bin pricing.

Good job! Thanks for the benchies!

Great data...

Anyone seen a review or benchmarks of how a GTO stacks up against a GTX?

That's the real question... if you can OC the memory to 1600 and basicaly get a GTX for about half price ;)

Mine is ON FEDEX VEHICLE FOR DELIVERY! Unfortunately I have to go to work right now, I hope they just leave it on my porch and they don't need me to sign for it. :captnkill:

Where did you order it from, ZipZoomFly? If so, then they don't ask for a signature.

Yep, it's odd... If you order fedex via NewEgg, it requirs a signature. But fedex via ZZF doesn't. Go figure.

I left a note on my front door and they left it! IT JUST CAME HOORAy. Mine is the new GTO box with no stickers covering GTX. Cant wait to get this baddy running.

EDIT: I ordered via ZZF, $262 w/ 2day fedex =)

That's funny, because I got the GTX box. I thought they sent me the wrong card at first...till I saw the stickers.

I was hopping to see Quake or Doom with their 512mb Ultra setting compared. Any chance you could downclock the Core and check it out see if the 512 is really beneficial when a game takes full advantage of it?

You also ordered from ZZF? I placed my order 10/02, you?
I think the stickered boxes might be better o/cers because mine artifacts badly at 1600 mem speed.

I ordered on Sept 30th. Also, the box has nothing to do with OCing, the cards all came from the same batch. It's just that they didn't have any boxes ready for the launch, apparently. My memory won't even reach 1600. In fact, my memory won't even reach 1400. However, the core does 729 without a problem.

Oooo, sux do you know what the chips are? Aren't they 1.2ns?

Edit: I'm sorry, I correct myself it's 1.1ns, at least on EVGA boards, so I understand the 1320+limit.

It's 1.1ns, but the memory is undervolted and timings are tightened, which explains the lack of overclocking for some of us. BIOS flash might work, but I like my warranty better than 1000 extra 3dmarks :captnkill:

Ya me too. My card right now is using 660/715 and seems ok, but the memory sucks a*s. If I try 720, my moniter go blank and games will crash very fast.
