It seems like the FX5800 is the original NV30 and FX5800 ultra is the original NV35.
When the ATI R300 was announced back in July 2002, Nvidia changed its plan.
Design Team A modified NV30 specs goes straight to original NV35 specs.
Team B accelerate the modified NV35 with 256bit memory bus.

So if the upcoming NV35 indeed using a 256bit memory bus, then it will be based on
a new design which takes 1 year from design to retail.
If Nvidia takes 1 year from designing a new GPU to available retail,
and if Nvidia design team started working on NV40 in Jan 2003,
the earliest NV40 will come out is about 1st quarter 2004.

Still too bad for Nvidia, because ATI R400 is schedule to be released and available in Aug 2003.

Sorry, but there's no way thats true. The Ultra and non-ultra are the same chip. One is clocked higher, that's all. Just like how all the GF4 Ti's are all the same chip, just different clock speeds.

I have heard from multiple sources that the 5800 Ultra is just a higher clocked 5800, has anyone heard any support for the 5800 Ultra=NV35 theory anywhere?

Sorry for not making my point clearly (poor english).

What I meant was the FX5800 ultra matched the old rumors specs of NV35, thats all.
The currect FX5800 and FX5800 ultra of course are the same chip.

By the way, don't you think that NVIDIA did change their plan when they have realised the power of the R300?

from what we have seen recently ultra is just overclocked nv30 in order to get to crown from r300.
i hope they can clock nv35 higher without dustbuster, prolly that was the plan......nv30@400 with normal cooling, then using evolution of .13 process to get higher clock speed in nv35.
ultra was big mistake....
