Camino and Safari have got NOTHING on FF2...

Serious! Best browser yet, totally pwnz Safari, Safari was cooler than FF1.5...and Camino pwned them both, not anymore....
The RC of FF2 pwnzer all. Nothing can pwnzer FF2.
give details dude.i want to try FF2 but i dont do betas on my stable systems

Well this is coming from an OSX perspective...so take this from that notion. Safari's tabs work a little differently and Camino's work in much the same way.
In FF you would have to click the x on the right of the tab bar if you wanted to close a tab, or right click on a tab to close it. Now it works like Safari/Camino in that you can click the x on the tab itself to close it. The performance has also improved, as well as the prefetching. It seems to be selectively prefetching links, but saving bandwidth somewhere.
In OSX the flip4mac plugin seemed to only like Safari, when you'd use it in Camino the page rendering would just go insane, and on FF1.5 you would lose the progress bar about halfway through a video. Now it's all working %100 and fast. There's less CPU cycles and more features too, less memory usage as well. When you tell it to keep a meager cache memory management improves.
Still need to play with it, but it just seems like a faster browser, which I didn't think could be done. The text searching is prettier, and the preferences area is cleaned up a bit. I really like the page info window, if you go to "media" you can see just media items on a page. I tried this out on youtube and finding the flv was a ton easier than it was in Safari.
I'm really happy so far, RSS feeds also improved quite a bit. They have a built in interface for managing RSS subscriptions that I like quite a bit. Sort of an improved "live bookmarks" area you can use. I actually might use RSS feeds a bit more now.
I'm also not having too many problems with old plugins, I got performancing firefox plugins working already.
I'm really happy with this, now I just need to mess with some of the xml to get an aqua forms/widgets interface and I'd be drooling and raving that much more about this browser. Mozilla's doing it again, making me love Firefox.
Mac users really need to get on board too, it's that good.
If you're an OSX user, switch. Apple has got a lot of catch up to do.

Oh, and this is rock solid so far. I've put it through the ringer with a ton of tabs open it actually pops up to tell you that you have too many tabs open and your performance is decreased, and this is based on resource usage apparently as closing other apps gets rid of this warning.

Oh, and spellchecker is lean and great on this, Apple should really get the spelling dictionary going on Safari. FF is using the spellcheck system and it's great.

Just mentioning this in case you dont know, but you can middle click tabs to close them in FF. Is that still in FF2?

On OSX it doesn't quite work that way, you would have to map a function specifically for that. Apple users are still waiting for the "third mouse button" in OSX.

Wait...weren't we discussing this very subject a while back? :D
That aside though IMO firefox and thus the gecko engine are going to be the platform of the future. Not windows, not OSX, not linux or any posix OS for that matter, rather they will merely serve as a means to the frontends. Web 2.0 is where application development is headed, and at a pretty rappid pace. Firefox is currently doing the best to facilitate web 2.0 development as it is currently the most scalable and flexible web browser by a long shot.

I was installing OS X on a friend's laptop and I could have sworn that you can middle click tabs in Firefox to close them. CTRL+W and CTRL+T work as well...

oldsk00l give me a linky to the RC2 of FF2. It is ok so far on my iBook . . haven't tested it out on the iMac yet. Here are my overall pros and cons.
PROS
Whenever you click on a link, it is defaulted to just open another tab. How cool is that? It's a great way to get people to start using tabs . . . instead of multiple windows.
Looks great
CONS
Runs a little heavy on my iBook. Not so much the program itself, but the surfing speed I guess is the right way to put it. As of the moment, Safari runs smoother with my usual web sites.
All in all, this browser looks promising. I just hope that they can tweak it a little more as far as the Mac version goes. I'll try it out on my iMac and see if it runs better on the ol' Core Duo.
I'm quite happy with FF2 on my PowerBook. It's tons better than Safari with AJAX stuff like Google Calendar and Google Reader, but Safari still has a better overall feel with other sites. FF2 will probably bump Camino off as my secondary browser of choice, though.

Okay, just installed it and wow! FasterFox isn't compatible, but it doesn't need it. Very nice so far...and fast! :thumbsup:

Adblock Plus is a bit more feature rich and updated more frequently than regular Adblock. Paired with the Adblock Filterset.G extension and you're in ad-free-surfing nirvana. :D
Both extensions work perfectly with FF 2.0. :)

I agree with you there. Linux, OSX, and Windows are all about delivering us a Gecko client that leverages a lot of AJAX and upcoming stuff out there to make it all consistent across different platforms. Ultimately, stuff is going to be more web driven, and our local environments of choice are just clients to get us the browser and webservice platform.
I actually agree with this %100, and I'd love it if it were.
