I did a forum search and didn't see this posted, so sorry if it has been.
The other day I was having absolutely terrible performance (2-10 FPS!?! ), on the living planet level, Acheron, whereas previous levels were smooth as a baby's butt with all detail settings on "high"and EAX enabled at 1024x768x32 (old 17" monitor :() w/ 2xAA and 16xAniso. I tried lowering some of the settings, but this had no effect on performance. I decided to check the Windows Task Manager, and found that "AutoRun" was eating up about 40-50% of the CPU. I disabled it, rebooted, and things were once again smooth as a baby's butt. I have also heard people say that no-CD cracks solve this problem too, but IMO that's not the best option. Good luck!
