I am using Gentoo Linux 1.4_rc2.
XFree86 4.2.1
Kernel 2.4.21-pre4-ac4
Nvidia Driver version 1.0.3123

Whenever I try to start X with the module option for enabling sba, my entire machine locks up.

I have a PNY Geforce 3 ti200 64meg.

Card:
Fast Writes: Supported
SBA: Supported
AGP Rates: 4x 2x 1x

Host Bridge: Via Apollo Pro KT266
Fast Writes: Supported
SBA: Supported
AGP Rates: 4x 2x 1x
Registers: 0x1f000217:0x00000114

anyone have any ideas?

Well, just because the chipset and host bridge both support it doesn't necessarily mean it's going to make the machine run reliably.

Quite the contrary, in fact, on some host bridges. Read through the comments surrounding the SBA and FW settings in os-registry.c (in the NVIDIA_kernel tarball) for more info.
