Hi folks,

I'm planning building a AMD dual core 64bits AM2 box with following components.

Motherboard
ASUS M2N-E
NVIDIA nForce® 570 Ultra™ MCP
http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=101&l3=308&model=1181&modelmenu=1
http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?modelmenu=2&model=1181&l1=3&l2=101&l3=308

Graphic card
Gigabyte PCI-E card
Model : GV-NX66256DP2
nVidia Geforce 6600
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/VGA/Products_Spec.aspx?ClassValue=VGA&ProductID=1273&ProductName=GV-NX66256DP2

This graphic card will be removed from a running AMD Athlon64 socket939 box, built above 4 months ago. I don't game.

CPU
AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core
Model 3800+
http://www.amdcompare.com/us-en/desktop/details.aspx?opn=ADD3800IAT5CU

Will there be any problems such as blank screen, mouse point hanging, shutdown not poweroff only system halted, etc.

Please advise. TIA

You should be fine. You can neve rreallt tel when those things will happen. If somethign does happen it will be because of a cerain component and if that does happen you can always RMA it.

I would advise goign with eVga just because theri customer support is outstanding.

Can I ask why you're going AM2 instead of Conroe? If you're just a hardcore AMD fan, that's fine, but the price/performance ratio of Conroe is much, much better.

yeah, conroe would be a much better choice.

Sorry for that confusion. I meant go with an eVga video card. THey have a nice ste-up program which comes in handy. I would also go for conroe right now. AND I would even wait for G80, it coms Nov. 17th I believe.

I have been running AMD for sometimes but not a hardcore AMD fan.

I suppose Conroe being "Intel CORE2 DUO". AMD is a little bid cheaper. However mobo for AMD is cheaper than that for Intel. Besides I need 64bits.

I ran Intel in the past. Its performance was not bad except being more expensive on price.

Hi Bearclaw,

Tks for your information. I need a fast CPU running 64bits for software compilation. I don't game.
