I was wanting to know if anyone knew how to sufficiently mount a CPU heatsink on a Radeon9700 PRO (yes, I'm insane). Namely the ThermalTake Volcano 7+. It weighs two pounds, and I can't screw it on. It probably isn't a good idea to use thermal adhesive, so, does anyone have any bright ideas. Also, how would I mount another heatsink (not as large as the volcano) on the back of the card without short-circuiting it?
I may not be able to do this, I don't know. That's why I am asking.

Note: No heatsinks like the one from Zalman will fit, my RAMsinks that are already attatched take up that space.

Well, I don't think it's necessary or logical.

While you would be cooling the core enough for higher speed, in the end that's only 50 percent of the overclocking problem. You need to be able to feed the core more power so it can reach those higher speeds. So you would need to volt mod your card. If you go too high on the voltage, you will be slowly killing your card.

And also, there is the problem of the core's quality. Weather or not you are supplying enough cooling/power won't matter if the chip just can't do those speeds.

But to answer your question, you could do it, with a lot of work. You would just need to come up with a holding mechanism to keep the HSF in place and have it touching the core flush and firm. You probably DON'T want the HSF using the card itself to hold it's weight.
