My 2nd hard drive (not the one the OS is on) is failing. Sometimes the computer can see it. Sometimes it can't.

Right now it can't. I want to back it up to an external (probably with ghost).

Can this be done if windows can't see the drive? or do I have to wait for one of those rare times where the 2nd drive can be seen?

I have valuable data from that drive backed up onto a dvd and another computer, however I have also installed lots of programs on that 2nd drive and I don't want to find the disks, downloads, and reinstall them all. Therefore I'd rather just clone the drive.

Thanks in advance for your help.

BTW this is "Old Rig" in my sig. I guess it's not still running strong

try putting it in a zip lock baggie in the freezer for 30 mins... Or... see if you have any loose connections.

the ziplock thing may work, as I've been getting write errors lately, cause my wife has made me put that pc in a poorly vented desk.

I know it's not loose connections. I have already tested them. Could be a bad IDE cable.
