PC Probe II reports motherboard temp as being 46c, and its alarm threshold is set to 45c. Anything to worry about?

nope. it just read it high.... I think that is a thermal diode under the cpu socket.

I thought the MB report was from the ICH chip?

Well, i think on that motherboard that the system temp was from under the socket, and with mine its from the southbridge.. Im not sure, thats what i heard.

I have almost the same rig aside from the drives. Yes the NB get awfully hot I used a TT NB heatsink to help at it has dropped my temp from 46c to 41c.

I also used PC probe and received similiar alarms. But I think a seperate NB cooler would atleast help you sleep better. follow the link below to see.
good luck
