They say it feels cheap, plasticky, uncomfortable and disconcertingly light.

Here is nothing wrong with the PS3 controller, Sony received great feedbacks about the controller so Matt Wales have to learning to live with it as he is the only one gave negative about PS3 controller, here are none other reviewers and people at TGS and E3 complainted about it.

Maybe they're just bored with it? Isn't it the same basic controller as it was 12 years ago?
They should have just shamelessly ripped off the 360's controller. I mean seriously, who does Sony think they are kidding? I always thought the placement of the left analog stick with an affront to wrists everywhere. And what they say about the triggers on the new controller does not sound good.
Maybe there will be some 3rd party controllers that just rip the 360's design. Here's hoping.

I'm also disapointed with it... I personally prefer rumble before the gyro-feature. Can't see the point of the gyro when you are playing a driving game ;) . And for the analouge sticks... Why didn't they exchange the places for the left stick and the D-pad? This is one of the things that make the 360 controler so great.

I haven't actually used the controller yet but I actually like the idea of Six Axis.
I never really cared for rumble and seeing how Six Axis brings another form of input into the game, I don't see how it's a bad thing. After you use it you probably hate it or love it.
I don't see how the analog sticks are a big deal either, unless you have small hands or something.

I liked the boomerang design.

I always liked the feel of the PS pads, but I like the weight with the rumble. I was holding my original PS Controller and it was way too light.
You know, I also loved the original Xbox controller... you know that huge one that was like the Dreamcasts...

Well if you like having your thumb "bent" towards you instead of the natural way (towards d-pad on the PS3 controler), then good for you. Again it's no coincidence that the 360 controller is layed out the way it is; today you use the analouge stick 99% of the time unlike 12 years ago  ...

I use to love the PS2 controller, I even bought adapters and such so I could use it on my XBox. But the XBox360 controller is really the best one out there IMO. I hope i can use the wired one on the PS3 through the USB port (when I eventually get a PS3 :)).
Lack of rumble in games like motorstorm is really going to annoy me. They should just settle the god damn suit against immersion.

See... this logic always blows my mind because what about the right analog? OH NOES UR RIGHT THUMB WILL BE MURTARED!

Me too, loved the (huge) xbox controller, then I have got big hands so maybe that helped. It just felt solid and precise.
The 360 controller is without doubt the best one, just perfect.

You usually don't use the right analog as much since most games make primary use of the buttons instead. I have to say, when I first got my PS2 and played Katamari Damacy, my left hand was a cramped, twisted claw for about a week. Granted I got used to it, but every time I don't play for a while, enjoy my 360, and come back to the PS2 (for games like Okami), the PS2 controller goes back to feeling horribly unnatural.

I just picked up my Dual Shock 2 controller and still don't see the problem. My thumb never feels bent or stretched while playing.
The 360 controller feels better to me, in the sense that the fingers that aren't being used(middle-pinky) feel snug on the back of the controller's grooves.

I know that the whole "them getting to play a real life PS3" is supposed to wow us and most importantly show us that the PS3 is practically within our grasp... but in reality the article kinda worried me
This hands on article was posted on October 13th. By October 13th, there should be boatloads of PS3s in production and every hardware and software aspect of the PS3 should be finalized and polished. Yet...
-The PS3 they played with didn't have updated firmware to play anything but blueray
-The Sony reps weren't sure what the exact functionality of the PS button on the controller was going to be
Both of those things should be set in stone by now as the PS3 is in mass production. So why give them a debug kit instead of the real thing? Why not even be sure of what some buttons are going to do yet? I'm not trying to bash on Sony and claim they won't come through with the release date or anything- if anything, the only thing I'm bashing is Sony's PR department for showing off an unfinished product when the only thing unfinished right now is supposed to be the games

Hmmmm... do you use the right analog more or the buttons?
Does it have both analog sticks next to each other along the bottom of the controller? My favorite controller is the Thrustmaster Firestorm controllers that have both analog sticks next to each other near the bottom of the controller so I'm hoping it's like that.
Anyway, one thing I've read about the new controller that I don't like is the need to recharge so often. Hopefully some 3rd party controllers will be a little better in that department.

Are you sure about the recharging thing? I remember it was said the battery life was like 30 hours or so.

Well I think the problem here is that Sony tried to make something new (the boomerang design) and they got such bad feedback for it, before anyone was able to try it, their only concern for the new controller was to make sure everyone likes the design..... In Sonys mind, everyone loves the PS1 and PS2 controller, so lets just use that.... I really think Sony should have went back to the drawing board instead of rehashing designs.

Yeah, 30 hours or so was what I read but that seemed kind of short to me. Maybe I'm just thinking of regular batteries in the X360 controller that seems to last a lot longer than that so maybe 30 hours for a rechargeable controller is fine.

Right Analog... I guess you only play racing games and fighting games, because generally the right analog is used for camera control, so I use it a lot.

Yea it should be fine. You can just plug your controller into the PS3 via USB to charge while you play as well.

Seems like the positioning of the analog sticks on the ps controller annoys the little kids... What, can't get to it? You hand is too small or something? Thats the best controller I have ever used. Fits like a glove on my hand :) The only thing that annoys me is the sixaxis instead of the rumble... It is light waaaay too much...
Sigh...
