after reading this article from the november 2006 issue of CPU magazine, i felt like i had to share my excitement with the rest of you (nana2)

interesting... wish they would have given us some benchmark numbers.

i know, but just knowing that it is capable of running four instances of prime95 and watching dvd w/ progs eating memory up in the background and still have 10% of the resources to spare, this is one killer cpu

To me it just means that prime95 is unable to stress test that cpu properly if each instance doesn't take 100% of its assigned core.

well run prime95 on your sempron, just a single instance, it will cripple your cpu period. now take a core 2 duo or amd x2, run prime95 in 2 instances for each core, computer again cripled. in the article they are running 4 instances for each core, watching a dvd and having idle programs eat up memory, if that doesn't put you in awe i don't know what will

I can't wait until I can buy a >=$100 quad core chip. Until then, I'm forced to drool over the top end chips :P

Is that when this thing comes out? holy smokes if it does I am getting it, forget Core 2 Duo Extreme:lol:
Lol. Getting rid of your core 2 chips already? Looks like there will be loads of bargains for me on the bay.

I want one...

Curious, isn't Kentsfield going to be an Extreme processor when it launches? I know there are no official word on price but I thought I read that some where. I looking to buy a Core 2 Duo but if in November there is a $300 Core 2 Quad then I might wait. Anyone got any news they might know or at least rumors that could direct me? Thanks.
So I take it a current dual core motherboard would not work with a Kentsfield? I am so itching for a new PC with a lot of games I want to play coming out (currently using an old AGP system).

someone posted kentsfield pricing around here, i guess there are only two chips, one for 899 - 2.6ghz and the top end for 1000 - 3.0ghz.
as far as using current mobos, i believe the kentsfield is using the same layout as the core 2 duo, atleast that's what i'm getting from the people that are testing out the engy samples. probably just a matter of a bios upgrade, much like going from amd64 -> amdx2
