Im getting this new comp delivered soon, comes with Radeon 9700 pro {oem version i think}

What is the procedure for installing new drivers on these Radeon 9700 pros? Can you install say the cat 3.1 drivers over the ones in that came in the dell machine, or do you have to uninstall them and mess with the inf files and stuff that this link says

http://www.driverheaven.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8053

Im no computer expert, but that kinda sounds a bit nasty deleted inf files and messing the the registry.

Doesnt the ati drivers 3.1 function the same as detonators, in that you can download them to desktop and double click the .exe file and your good to go?

I can either go with the Dell ones specific to my system posted on dell downloads, they arre dated jan 15th 2003 or go with the ATI 3.1 ones off of official site.

Im kinda confused about driver installs for this thing hehe,

Anyone provide some help?

For first time installs, you just need to download the drivers from ATI driver's site if you don't want to use the CD drivers that may be provided. It is an *.exe that allows you to expand the driver files into a folder before running the normal driver setup. If you don't want to run the setup once the files are expanded, you can install them manually through Device Manager or Computer Management. The choice is up to you.

For driver upgrades, some suggest that you uninstall the previous drivers before installing new ones. If you choose this route, you should be able to find the DriverCleaner app in DriverHeaven's forum. It works for both ATI and Nvidia cards (a universal Detonator Destroyer and Catalyst Crusher if you will). It does the same thing as everything in that long post describes. You won't have to do that at all anymore. If you don't want to uninstall, simply run the new setup and it should update the driver set for you.
