Yup, that seems to be the case. How reliable the battery inside the controller is yet to be seen though.

Yes, they won't be replaceable unless you consider using a screwdriver and a solder an option. Not a big deal. Lithium batteries degrade much slowler compared to Ni-Cd or Ni-MH models.

I think in most of the cases the microswitches will break long before the batteries.

You really only have to worry about changing out the battery if it goes BOOM!

You really only have to worry about changing out the battery if it goes BOOM!Well, considering they're made by Sony, the chance is not that remote!

That sucks!

A whole new gamepad for the sake of a battery? WTF

Well if you use that article Knot3D linked to. It gives a guesstimate of 1000 charges before the controller dies, then you would get about 3 1/2 years out of it.

I don't really see the problem. Hell I'd probably end up breaking the controller before the battery died.....Madden Multiplayer!:banghead:

"This is a purely speculative story and is largely untrue. The latest generation of Lithium Polymer batteries hardly suffer any memory effect at all, so it'll be many years before there's any degradation in terms of battery performance."

The spokesperson went on to confirm, "When and if this happens, then of course we will be providing a service to exchange these items."
